*Title: *Orthogonality catastrophe in gapless dissipative quantum many body
systems
*Abstract: *I will present an analog of the phenomenon of orthogonality
catastrophe in quantum many body systems subject to a local dissipative
impurity. I will show that the fidelity displays an exponential decay at a
rate which signals
the onset of environmental decoherence, accompanied by a critical algebraic
slow down induced by the presence of gapless modes in the system. This
picture is substantiated, in a second order cumulant expansion, for the
one-dimensional integrable quantum spin chains subject to a local dephasing
jump operator, as well as for the two dimensional Bose gas deep in the
superfluid phase with local particle heating. I will also discuss ideal
set-ups for the measurement of this effect as well as possible ways to
extend calculations beyond perturbation theory.
