Hi all,
Tomorrow our dear leader himself will talk at group meeting - see below for
the title and abstract. Also, don't forget that we have a big goodbye party
after group meeting, and that Thomas' defense is Friday at 2!
For all the new group members (and old ones who forgot), the group meeting
schedule is here
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LioqdopHr5ZAmn0GaCQwLUTYoU4ZJuvfrMYE6zCVhqI/edit#gid=0>.
I'm filling it out for the fall and a bit into the new year, so please let
me know if you'd like to give a talk or will have any visitors. The
schedule is reflected about a month in advance on the group Google calendar
- ask me, Siria, or Marlon if you don't have access.
Finally, after a late cancellation I'm still searching for someone to talk
next week (the 22nd) - please let me know if you can help out. Tutorials
are OK.
Best,
Ian

“Transitioning basic and applied science to the market: The history of
Calculario and Kyulux”
As many of you know, I am now an advisor to Kyulux, Inc., a company that is
in the business of developing organic light emitting devices. This is a
story that began ten years ago when I started at Harvard in 2006. I will
discuss the different levels of scientific development, from basic to
applied science and will also review the history of our early startup
efforts that led to our involvement with Kyulux. I will also discuss how to
handle potential conflicts of interest and the relationships between
industry and academia.
