Title: Coherence in photosynthesis?
Abstract: Coherent vibronic transport is a photophysical process that
converts an electronic excitation on one pigment to an electronic and
vibrational excitation on another pigment (or vice-versa) in a wave-like
fashion. It has been suggested that biological pigment protein complexes
garner a functional advantage for light harvesting via coherent vibronic
transport mechanisms, but this remains controversial. In this talk I will
summarize a model of vibronic transport that allows us to quickly diagnose
the extent of vibronic coherence that should be expected in photosynthetic
pigment protein complexes. These results suggest that vibronic transport is
incoherent in photosynthetic light harvesting antenna.
