Hi all,
Since the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is not in a position to organize
this meeting I decided to take it upon myself to see if a seminar could be
organized to have Adam Stein over to talk about SHIFT SBIR. Here is a bit
about the talk and the speaker.
In Adam’s words:
I think the postdocs/graduate students at Harvard would benefit from
learning more about this new funding opportunity as it is still quite new
and a very good opportunity for those interested in industry science
positions. Below you can find a bit more about me and the title and outline
of the talk I would like to give:
Title: "Is a Startup Right for You? An Intro to Industry Science"
What will be discussed:
Adam Stein, the CEO of a newly formed nanotechnology company in Pasadena, is
coming to share his perspectives on the advantages and disadvantages of
careers for postdocs and grad students outside of the academic world. This
seminar will provide an understanding of industry science (specifically
startup science companies) and careers in industry as a whole. Adam will
also discuss the new SHIFT SBIR program sponsored by NIH, where postdocs can
collaborate with startup science companies, and shift from a successful
postdoc in academia to a career in industry. This is a brand new NIH funding
opportunity meant to encourage collaborations between industry and academia.
Don’t miss this opportunity to better equip yourself with the knowledge of
the many options for your future career!
SPEAKER: Adam Stein is a co-founder of Advantageous Systems LLC (
www.advantageoussystems.com), a material science company integrating
nanotechnology, chemistry, and biotechnology to develop smart materials for
use in cleantech and healthcare applications. Before launching ADS, Adam
worked at the US Food and Drug Administration, where he conducted review and
policy work for the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Office of the
Commissioner, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, and Center for
Biologics Evaluation and Research. His research focus was co-development of
diagnostic and therapeutics for personalized medicine, regulatory affairs of
nanomedicine, and regulatory trials and planning in the Office of Cellular
Tissue and Gene Therapy. His expertise includes research in biotechnology,
nanotechnology, and regulatory affairs.
Please send me a reply and let me know if you are interested in attending
this event. After getting a head count, we will decide if this can be taken
any further.
I look forward to hearing from you all at your earliest possible convenience
(latest by Thu evening). I need some time to organize this if we have a
critical mass of interested folks.
Thanks and good day,
Sudha…:)
