Abstract
A new subfield of Artificial Intelligence, called Machine Reading, is gaining increasing
momentum. What is Machine Reading? Will machines emulate human reading? Or will Machine
Reading be analogous to Computer Chess---a radically non-human approach to the game that
achieved super-human performance? My talk will speculate on these questions, and then
describe our KnowItAll project, which investigates the challenges of ''reading
the Web''.
Host: Professor David Parkes
