Dear group,
Regarding the department's donation initiative to students at Kenyatta
University in Nairobi (see email copied below), the box for donations
arrived only this morning and is in the big office, near the door of M-105
(big office).
Acceptable items for donation include:
- glassware (clean and unbroken)
- glass joints
- functional analytical equipment (ie IR and UV-vis spectrometers, HPLCs,
columns)
- scientific literature (including journals and textbooks).
I think we can only contribute to "scientific literature"... unless someone
has a spectrometer or other hiding under their desk.
So if you have old textbooks or other you don't use anymore or want to give
away you know where the box is.
Best,
Stephanie

Dear CCB,
The Graduate Student and Postdoc Council (GPC) would like to bring to your
attention *Clean Out, Help Out,* a new international outreach initiative in
collaboration with Kenyatta University. As part of this project, we are
donating unwanted scientific equipment and literature from our department to
chemistry students at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. Labeled boxes
have been distributed to each lab to facilitate your donations.
This Friday, April 22nd, 2011 we will have the
*First Annual Spring Clean Out*
We hope that everyone will take advantage of this day to focus on
designating items to donate to Kenya. At the end of the day, all of the
boxes will be collected and appropriately packaged.
In celebration of concluding the Spring Clean Out, we are hosting a special

THIS FRIDAY, at 5:00pm in the Department Center. The TGIF will feature
Kenyan food along with the typical TGIF drinks and snacks. In addition, we
will be providing prizes for the labs who donate the most. Come share in our
excitement about this opportunity to make an impact!
