Dear Group,
Please join me in thanking Minoo for being such a great group member!
Minoo is moving on to a great job opportunity in the field of education,
and we will all miss her a lot. The good thing is that because she is
part of the Mohseni-Ardeshiri family we will be seeing her around at
group events.
Congratulations for the new job Minoo, and I hope that everything goes
well over there.
Cheers,
Alan
Group: Also join me in welcoming Orpha Rivera, who will be our new
laboratory administrator. Please stop by and introduce yourselves to
her.

Dear Quantum People
We will meet on Monday November 19 at 2:00 in 6-310. We will have
as a guest Mohammad Amin from D-Wave who is also speaking at 4:00.
Hopefully this will be an opportunity for a good discussion about
their device.
Best,
Eddie
ps I don't think we will have a meeting on November 26.

Seminar Series
Wednesday, November 14, 2007; 4:00pm
60 Oxford Street, Room 330
Leslie Greengard, Director, Courant Institute of Mathematical
Sciences, New York University
Seminar Title: Physics, Simulation, and Design
Abstract: We will review the analytic and computational foundations
of fast algorithms for classical physics, as well as their use in
solving problems of electromagnetics and biophysics. While fast
algorithms have allowed for the simulation of large-scale systems
with modest computational resources, a number of open problems remain
in coupling simulation to design. We will describe some recently
developed methods that are ideally suited for such problems, and will
discuss the creation of a new generation of design environments.

Dear group,
Adam Cohen's lab has a theory talk this Thursday from 5-6.
Here is the abstract:
Title: Signature of Quantum Chaos In Photon-Echo Experiment
Maksym Kryvohuz, MIT
Abstract:
A great deal of theoretical work has been devoted a decade ago to study
the
signatures of chaos in quantum systems. It has been shown that systems
with
regular dynamics possess Poisson statistics of nearest-neighbor energy
level
spacings, while systems with chaotic dynamics possess Wigner statistics.
Obtaining level statistics from experimental spectrum meets several
difficulties, thus it is interesting to find the effect of different
level
statistics on the time-domain signal. Three-pulse photon-echo experiment
is
considered, the information about spectral statistics is provided by
supressed photon echo signal in case of Wigner statistics (chaotic
motion),
which is absent in case of Poisson statistics (regular motion).

Dear group,
Alan Saghatelian needs help with installing matlab in one of his
boxes. Any Matlab expert/volunteer that can go up and see if we can
help them?
Cheers,
A.
