It turns out that the previous email forgot about some people that were not
in the mailing list at the time, and as usual, now there are some schedule
conflicts, demonstrating the NP completeness of the scheduling problem
itself.
I'm willing to create a doodle poll but I assume it will be easier to be
dictatorial at this point, at least as a first trial.
After looking at the schedules of seminars and people who take classes, it
seems that the best time for group meeting is...
*Early bird group meeting time*
*Fridays at 10 AM (!!!)*
**
Please reply ASAP (before tomorrow 12 pm) if you have a conflict with this
time.

Dear all,
I need 2-3 volunteers to present a poster at the undergraduate research fair
in October. Please contact me ASAP. If there are no volunteers by tomorrow,
I will use the "arbitrary advisor" method and pick 2 or 3 of you to do this
P-)
Best,
Alan

Subject: Reminder - Undergradute Research Fair
To: "Aspuru-Guzik, Alan" <aspuru(a)chemistry.harvard.edu>
Dear Alán,
Last month Rob Lue and I wrote to you about the Undergraduate Research Fair
on October 14 from 2-5 pm at the Queen’s Head Pub on the Cambridge campus.
The purpose of this fair is to provide undergraduates (especially freshmen
and sophomores) with information about the range of research opportunities
available to them at Harvard and give them a chance to meet people from a
variety of labs. All faculty engaged in life sciences research at Harvard
are invited to join us in an afternoon poster session and we also strongly
encourage participation by post-docs and graduate students from your lab.
Your group may present posters that have been prepared for other purposes,
but we recommend making a more general poster that would provide information
on several of the ongoing projects in your laboratory. We hope that you will
view this as a great opportunity for your lab group to meet and possibly
recruit new students.
If you or members of your lab are planning to present a poster, please
contact me by *October 1* so that we can make sure that we have enough room
and easels for all. We are planning to compile an abstract book so we would
appreciate a three or four sentence description of your lab’s work. If you
have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to
seeing many of you there.
Sincerely,
Ann Georgi
On business matters, below is an announcement for some jobs at our place. If
you know anyone who might be interested, please could you forward them the
link.

We currently have two open positions in our research group, suitable either
for a talented PhD-student or a PostDoc. The topics are (1) the
time-dependent
tracing of eigenvalues of large time-dependent Hamiltonians, and (2) the
application
and extension of concepts relating to coherent population trapping,
dark-states,
and STIRAP to new physical systems. More details can be found at our
website:

Hi,
I wanted to let you know about an opening for a postdoctoral
position.
I anticipate having an opening for a postdoctoral position within the
next two or three months and would like someone to start as soon as
possible. The position is for one year, possibly renewable, to work
on problems concerning quantum error prevention methods. The
applicant should have some knowledge of quantum error correcting codes
and fault-tolerant quantum computing. Knowledge of other error
prevention methods, such as dynamical decoupling controls and
decoherence-free subspaces would be beneficial.
The starting salary is approximately $45,000 per year. This is a very
good salary considering that in our location the cost of living is
quite low. Anyone interested should send a CV and names of three
references. Email recommendations letters should be sent from the
references.
If you know anyone who would be interested, please forward this email
to them or post as you like.
Thank you,
