Dear friends,
On Thursday I will grow one year older..
and I need your support in that turning day.
At 10am I will provide cakes in the common space:
see it as a sort of Italian breakfast.
Hope to see you there!
Gian Giacomo
PS: No, not Italian brioches, rather American cakes. :-)

Title: Casimir effects and related interactions in AMO physics
Abstract:
The Casimir effect is generally studied as a force affecting conductors in
close proximity. We'll look at the ways the related Casimir-Polder
interactions occur in atomic, molecular, and optical physics, such as
between a pair of atoms or between an atom and a surface. Some theoretical
aspects and experimental results will be surveyed.
Hello Everyone,
If you have a printer at home that you buy ink or toner for, you might be
able to make a little bit of money.
Since my crowning as glorious Tsar of Aspuru-Guzik printers, I've been
sending back our toner cartridges to HP and we get nothing in return. But,
it turns out, Staples has a program where you can get $2 for each toner
cartridge you give them IF you spend $30 on ink or toner in the last 180
days:

It's likely only worth it if you already buy ink for a printer but if
anyone wants to do this program and start bringing the toner cartridges
down to Staples, let me know. The group goes through a lot of toner so
this could be a good opportunity. We can't buy group toner at staples,
alas.
Let me know if you're interested!

Location: Harvard University – Knafel Center (Radcliffe Gym)
Thinking with Your Eyes explores visualization use across disciplines and research methods. During this two-day symposium, experts will share tools and insight about what it means to interpret, learn and teach visually.
Martin Wattenberg and Fernanda Viegas of Google’s “Big Picture” Research Group will kick off the event. Additional experts in music, economics, astronomy, archaeology, and literature will present during lightning-round sessions, roundtable discussions and hands-on workshops.
Whether you are a seasoned veteran or just starting to explore, this will be an opportunity to share, learn and connect with others.
