I have sent the following message some time ago from my gmail account, but it seems it did not go through.
For those who are interested in Quantum Computation:
Wed 10/22, 3:00 in 36-428 (special seminar)
William Oliver (MIT Lincoln Laboratory)
Quantum Computation with Superconducting Artificial Atoms
In this talk, we will present an overview of our superconductive quantum computing effort. In collaboration with Lincolns Solid State Division (Division 8) and the MIT campus, we have fabricated superconductive artificial atoms, actively cooled them to near absolute zero, and demonstrated new broadband spectroscopy techniques along with the more conventional Rabi, Ramsey, and spin-echo metrics to characterize their coherence. These artificial atoms form the fundamental building blocks, qubits, of a quantum information processor. We have developed and simulated a universal set of gate operations capable of low error rates to control these qubits. Today, we are working to improve single-qubit coherence while coupling these qubits into more complicated circuit elements. The talk will present a review of our progress and future work.
It is at Research Laboratory of Electronics. Sorry for late advertisement. I just have got this info.

Dear all,
If anyone has seen my copy of *Classical Electrodynamics* by Jackson.
Please let me know. I lost it on Monday sometime between 11am and noon. It
was in a brown paper book jacket and it has my name in the front cover. I
would appreciate any information on the whereabouts of the book.
Sincerely,
James Whitfield

Hi,
Anyone want to learn group theory a little better? I've been learning it on
my own and I promised to show it to Cesar in a (hopefully) systematic
development leading to applications in spectroscopy. Let me know if you
want to listen in (or if you want to help teach it).

_“Reducing Carbon, Promoting Sustainability: the Role of Individuals and
Institutions”_
As our society struggles with reducing greenhouse gas emissions and
transitioning to more sustainable environmental practices in general, many
individuals, companies, schools and other institutions have made commitments

individuals or institutions really make? How do individuals and institutions
like Harvard fit into national or global goals of reducing carbon emissions
specifically and promoting environmental sustainability more generally?
What are the roles for individuals, institutions, and companies in reducing
carbon and promoting environmental sustainability?
