Some nice people (my parents) got me a cake, albeit a cheesy one (not in the
edible sense). However, it's really good.
Please feel free to stop by for a piece.

Dear group,
I would just like to ask if people are interested in
regular meetings on energy transfer. The meetings could
be very informal and easy-going.
Topics would include e.g. master equations for open systems
(Redfield, Lindblad), physical systems (chromophores, quantum dots),
and even electronic spectroscopy (Mukamel). Additionally,
we could talk about papers that we found in journals.
What do you think?
Many thanks in advance for your replies!
Cheers,
Patrick
Dear group,
there was a really nice lecture by M. Scully (quantum optics)
today in physics about detecting anthrax molecules and more.
(Sorry for the late notice, but I got the notification 5 min
before the talk).
Next week will be a second lecture.
I thought I let you know since he is a great speaker.

Description Marlan O. Scully (TAMU & Princeton)
The study of fluctuations of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is a subtle problem with many pitfalls and surprises. For example, a simple analytical treatment of fluctuations near the critical temperature has only recently been achieved. In particular, we find that a master equation approach, having much in common with the quantum theory of the laser, yields an accurate and physically transparent picture of BEC fluctuations.

Patrick

Seminar Series
Wednesday, April 2, 2008; 4:00pm
60 Oxford Street, Room 330
Stephen Green, Senior Staff Engineer, Sun Microsystems
Seminar Title:
Search at Sun: Past, Present and Future
Abstract:
Sun Microsystems Laboratories has had a search project almost since
its founding. The history of the search projects in Sun Labs
parallels the history of search over the past decade and a half. This
talk will provide an overview of much of the research undertaken at
Sun during this period, as well as giving some insight into the
current problems being undertaken by the research community. In
addition, we'll have a look at some new work being undertaken in the
Labs that uses traditional search technologies for a decidedly
untraditional application.
Upcoming IIC Seminars:
Continue to stay up to date with our IIC Seminar Schedule.
Parking is available in the 52 Oxford Street Garage. Please tell the
attendant that you are attending the IIC Seminar.
