Seminar Series
Wednesday, May 7, 2008; 4:00pm
60 Oxford Street, Room 330
Ronald Baecker, Professor of Computer Science, Bell Chair in Human-
Computer Interaction, University of Toronto
Seminar Title:
Towards the Design of Electronic Cognitive Prostheses
Abstract:
The goal of our research is to envision, prototype, design,
construct, and evaluate powerful and flexible electronic cognitive
aids. I will present six cognitive prosthesis research projects being
done in collaboration with medical researchers and clinicians at
Baycrest, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, and the Columbia
University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Our goal is to support
individuals and families who are struggling with amnesia, Mild
Cognitive Impairment, and Alzheimer’s disease, in tasks such as
managing appointments, remembering names, and recalling and
reminiscing about past and current experiences.
Additional Seminars:
Professor Ronald Baecker will be giving a different talk on Thursday,
May 8th at 10:30am at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial
Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) - User Experience Research Challenges

Dear All,
I thought this would be a good and inspiring bit of news, and I think
refreshingly forward thinking and ambitious for an Oxford College.
Having been inspired by 40% House, a report written by the Lower
Carbon Futures Team at the Environmental Change Institute, Christ
Church is pledging to cut their carbon emissions in line with
government targets. See here for more details:
http://www.chch.ox.ac.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=689&Item…
I think it would be a great idea to jump on the bandwagon and really
get the momentum going on this.
All the Best,
