Hi Quanta
We will not meet on Friday because we are celebrating the birthday of our great nation. However there is a seminar of interest on Thursday with information below. We will meet on Friday of next week. Happy Fourth.

Optimization of Quantum Hamiltonian Evolution“
Prof. Apoorva Patel
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
Thursday, July 3rd, 11am
RLE Haus Room (36-428)
Abstract:
Given a quantum Hamiltonian and its evolution time, the corresponding unitary evolution operator can be constructed in many different ways, corresponding to different trajectories between the desired end-points. A choice among these trajectories can then be made to obtain the best computational complexity and control over errors. It is shown how a construction based on Grover's algorithm scales linearly in time and only logarithmically in error bound, and is clearly superior to the scheme based on straightforward application of the Lie-Trotter formula.

Apoorva Patel is a Professor at the Centre for High Energy Physics, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. He is notable for his work on quantum algorithms and their applications, and quantum chromodynamics. He obtained his PhD from CalTech in 1984 and was Scientific Associate, Theory Division, CERN in 1987-89 before joining IISc.

>From LinkedIn:Dear all, I got this in LinkedInHello Professor
I am a recruiter working with a well establisehd company in the New Jersey
area that is a leader in developing materials and OLED's for the display
industry for phones, tablets, and others.
The company is on solid footing having done an IPO in the 90's and they
have more that $280M in the bank. The company has a large diverse product
offering and the CTO has structured the company into various research
teams.
One of the research teams I am working with is computational chemistry team
involved with DFT and cluster modeling. I am working with this group to
recruit to the company a candidate with a strong quantam chemistry
background who also has modeling ability. This position could be a Post Doc
or a candidate with as manya s 6 eyars industrial experience.
I thought that I would send you a note and that maybe a referral might come
to mind?
Thanks greatly

Dear Aspurites!
I will be going back home to Mexico City tomorrow morning. But, as you
know, I´ll be coming back every now and then. So I am sure I´ll see you
again. Meanwhile I want to thank you all for your kind hospitality at
Alán's group, at CCB and at the Harvard community. I spent a real nice time
here, as always. Anyone planning to make a visit to Mexico will be more
than welcome in my turf. Just let me know and I will be glad to try to pay
back your hospitality.
I really admire the achievements of Alán's group, that is, the achievements
of all of you. Keep kicking ass, you are really good at that.
With respect,
Carlos
