Hi all,
Tomorrow our dear leader himself will talk at group meeting - see below for
the title and abstract. Also, don't forget that we have a big goodbye party
after group meeting, and that Thomas' defense is Friday at 2!
For all the new group members (and old ones who forgot), the group meeting
schedule is here
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LioqdopHr5ZAmn0GaCQwLUTYoU4ZJuvfrMY…>.
I'm filling it out for the fall and a bit into the new year, so please let
me know if you'd like to give a talk or will have any visitors. The
schedule is reflected about a month in advance on the group Google calendar
- ask me, Siria, or Marlon if you don't have access.
Finally, after a late cancellation I'm still searching for someone to talk
next week (the 22nd) - please let me know if you can help out. Tutorials
are OK.
Best,
Ian

“Transitioning basic and applied science to the market: The history of
Calculario and Kyulux”
As many of you know, I am now an advisor to Kyulux, Inc., a company that is
in the business of developing organic light emitting devices. This is a
story that began ten years ago when I started at Harvard in 2006. I will
discuss the different levels of scientific development, from basic to
applied science and will also review the history of our early startup
efforts that led to our involvement with Kyulux. I will also discuss how to
handle potential conflicts of interest and the relationships between
industry and academia.
In case you might be interested to apply ...

Dear Group,
It's time to schedule sub-group meetings for the Fall (September-December).
In order to better accommodate Alan's very busy travel schedule,I have
assigned each subgroup meeting times instead of requesting sub-groups send
me times. I need everyone to try the absolute best to arrange their
schedules and make these work.
*In addition, please check the Group Calendar regularly and emails with
information on sub-group meetings as these are sometimes moved to
accommodate sudden changes in Alan's calendar.*

Hi everyone,
Is anyone interested in a futon? Since we have several new people in the
group, I thought I would ask here first.
The futon has been used for 3 years, and is in good condition. The back is
able to fold down so that the whole couch lies flat. It is pretty good for
having guests stay with you.
We're currently looking at selling for $50 (original price $140) but you'll
have arrange pickup from Peabody Terrace.
Please email me if you are interested/would like more information.
Cheers,
Jennifer
PS This is NOT the famed lucky AAG couch; that I will use until I graduate,
and will give it away to another group member as per tradition.
Dear group members,
Please attend the colloquium today at 4 PM Pfizer . It is a theoretician
from MIT that I *strongly* encourage you to come listen. He is an excellent
speaker and I want to have theory attendance.
