Dear Group,
Peg is out this week due to an injured foot. If you need to schedule a
meeting w/ Alan, let me know. Alan's family is in town so he will be in and
out for the next week.
Thx,
Anna

Hello:
Please let me know if somebody has The Theory of Open Quantum Systems by
Breuer and Petruccioni, since I need to return it to the Chemistry Library
as soon as possible.

Guys,
I've finished reading the book "Plastic Fantastic." Now it is on the shelf
near the group printer. Feel comfortable to take it.
I like it a lot especially because you can met many active personages of the
story at conferences or even here.
Semion
Dear Group!
As Alan said the QuEBS conference is over. I was not able to attend it, but
would be much interested to learn what you guys (those who are working on
QuEBS and those who are more skeptical like me :) ) have got from the
meeting.
In exchange I tell what was interesting on the Plasmonics Gordon conference
that I've attended.
Is anybody interested in such a discussion?
Let me know!
Semion

Dear Group,
Thank you all for the awesome help during QUEBS! I ended up exhausted
and I assume you too.
Quite a few people from the conference are staying a few days to visit
us and MIT. Please be friendly with them.
I might be late today as I got a flat tire yesterday while driving
Doris sister to Wellesley, and today have to take my car in to get my
tires fixed.
Unfortunately, then the conference effects are still here as many will
want to talk science to you. A lot of them want to collaborate, etc.
You can talk to me about the options, etc.
See you as soon as I solve the tire issue,
Alan Aspuru-Guzik
(Sent from my mobile phone and might contain typos. Thanks for
understanding.)
Dear Group members,
Jianming Cai from Innsbruk is visiting us for one week; he is sitting
at Jacob's desk. He is working on both quantum computation and
biophysics. Feel free to talk to him, or let me know if you want to
make a special appointment with him.
Here is the homepage of Jainming where you can find the publications of him:

Yes, can you believe it?!! It's over! Yeah!!
FYI, there is a few leftovers from the party - cookies, pretzels, fruit/nut
mix, and soda. The food has been left in your offices and the soda is in
the kitchen area.
We also have a lot of bottles of the fruity alcohol, which we'll leave in
one of the crates for when you're thirsty. The crate will be in the big
student office.
Lastly, Peg was able to save a few of the QuEBS canvas bags. If you don't
have one yet, you can stop by the office next week and get one from Peg.
Thanks to all those who helped make the workshop a success!

Looks very interesting! Unfortunately, I do not satisfy the "less than 48
month after PhD" rule. Otherwise, my Raman-mice Project would fit it
perfectly. :) So, is there any brave person to try a quantum biology?

The Burroughs Welcome fund has announced the Career Award at the Scientific
Interface. Details can be found here:
Burrough Welcome Fund – Career Award at the Scientific Interface [this year
there is no restrictions to apply – anyone can apply at the preproposal
stage

BWF's Career Awards at the Scientific Interface provide $500,000 to bridge
advanced postdoctoral training and the first three years of faculty service.
These awards are intended to foster the early career development of
researchers with backgrounds in the physical/mathematical/computational
sciences whose work addresses biological questions. These awards are open to
U.S. and Canadian citizens or permanent residents as well as to U.S.
temporary residents.
In previous years, candidates for this award had to be nominated by a North
American degree-granting institution. This year, eligible candidates for
this award may self-nominate by submitting a preproposal by the deadline
shown above. Preproposals will be reviewed by the *Interfaces in Science
Advisory Committee* and selected candidates will be invited to submit a full
application. Full invited applications must be submitted by January 12,
2011.

Hi everybody,
Since we are in the conference season I had a look into business cards the
other day and here is what I came up with (maybe of interest for people):
1) the standard Harvard cards from UIS
https://www.uis.harvard.edu/printing_publications/hrvrdstat.php are really
expensive with 85$ for 500 cards
2) I now ordered 200 cards at Staples for 36$ (54$ for 500; they have a bit
plainer paper but more colour and design freedom;
http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/programs/copyandprint/business_cards.html).
They only need 4h to make them - if you take the delivery option it is
cheaper and you can get better paper
(http://www.staplescustomprinting.com/PriceQuote.aspx#100360). However,
Staples needs a letter from the Harvard Trademark Program which states that
you are entitled to have cards with the Harvard shield
(www.trademark.harvard.edu).
3) Anna discovered today another Harvard business card service (UOS)
l) where one gets basically the same as in (1), but with a few more options
(e.g., multicolor) and for much less money, i.e., 35$ for 300 cards.
Hope this info is useful for some of you.
Cheers
Jo
