Dear Group:
It might be the case that we need to provide internet access to the
conference-goers since they cannot get the necessary stuff to get access
themselves. Therefore, we might need to sign them up with our Harvard ID. If
you are around the Dept., at 10.30 please go downstairs so that you can help
giving access to the attendees.
Thanks,
Roberto

Dear Quantum Scientists in the Boston Area:
This is a reminder for Quantum Beer, Summer Edition, where Quantum
Scientists from institutions all over the Boston Area socialize away from
the blackboards (Calculations on napkins are permitted). This time we might
be joined by some other quantum scientists visiting Boston for the Quantum
Effects in Biological Systems conference (QuEBS
2010<http://quebs2010.wordpress.com/program/>
).

*Abstract*
Quantum walks describe the random walk behavior of a quantum
particle, and are expected to lead to new applications in quantum
information science. I will describe the implementation of a quantum
walk for photons in waveguide lattices. I will then describe a study
of the quantum correlations between two quantum walkers (photon pairs)
in periodic lattices, in disordered lattices exhibiting Anderson
localization, and in tilted lattices exhibiting Bloch Oscillations.
Please fwd this information to anyone you might think is interested.
Dear Group,
There's 2 air cans for dusting your keyboards for each 4-person office
space. I also bought a stainless steel electric kettle for hot water for
the tea drinkers (we couldn't find the extension cord for Alan's Zojirushi
electric kettle).
Enjoy,
Anna

Dear group,
A very interesting article about the current state of affairs. I think
we still have some 'upper hand' in the system described b/c we are at
'Hahvahd' and therefore i hope we can land jobs for you all. But
doesn't take away from the message that I agree on: Academia needs
reform.

Alan Aspuru-Guzik
(Sent from my mobile phone and might contain typos. Thanks for
understanding.)
Dear Group,
We need your help. Alan is calling on all the Excitonics folks to take
charge of the audiovisual duties for the speaker presentations and panel
discussions. We need 2 people each day to share the responsibility of
keeping the talk schedule on track, by getting speakers' laptops set up with
the projector+mic right before their designated times and passing out the
hand-held microphones during panel discussions, as well as other AV issues
that arise. We will have a planning meeting this Wed 16 June at 3pm in the
common area outside Alan's office to assign AV schedule and go over specific
instructions.
We also need guys to help set up+break down the Saturday night poster
session/beer bash. The poster session is from 7-9pm Sat night and will be
located in the common area outside the Bauer Cafe. If the weather is nice,
the beer/beverages will be located directly outside the revolving doors. We
need several folks to rearrange the table/chairs to make room for poster
boards, set up the easels, put out beverages/snacks, get ice, etc. We plan
to start set-up right after the afternoon coffee break ends at ~3:30pm.
We need everyone's help (not just Excitonics folks) for the workshop to go
smoothly. Please attend the group planning meeting in the common area at
3pm Wed. It's on the Group calendar now.
Thank you!
