PhD and Postdoctoral positions are available in the Applied Face Cognition (AFC) Lab led
by Dr. Meike Ramon at the Department of Psychology in Fribourg, Switzerland. Candidates
will join an ambitious international team with ample resources and excellent training
opportunities.
The AFC Lab studies individual differences in human face processing using multiple
neuroscientific techniques (psychophysics, eye-tracking, neuroimaging), and is funded by
the Swiss National Science Foundation. Our aim is to advance our understanding of face
processing and translate fundamental research findings into applied settings. We
collaborate internationally with scientists and a growing number of police agencies (eg,
State Criminal Police Office Berlin, Cantonal Police Zurich).
Skilled and highly motivated individuals with overlapping research interests and relevant
experience (background in neuroscience, psychology, biomedical science, computer science,
or related area) are encouraged to apply. In addition to a genuine interest in vision and
cognitive neuroscience, the ideal candidate has skills in programming and data analysis,
and a high level of written and spoken English. Experience with psychophysics and/or
neuroimaging, and strong quantitative skills are a plus. Successful applicants are curious
and solution-oriented, able to work independently to develop and conduct studies in the
field of translational cognitive neuroscience. Positions require no teaching and are
available for up to 3 years. Salaries are in accordance with the guidelines of the Swiss
National Science Foundation and University of Fribourg; flexible working arrangements may
be available for experienced postdocs.
Switzerland is multicultural, offers a high standard of living and great outdoor
activities. The University of Fribourg is Switzerland's only bilingual (German,
French) higher education institution. Fribourg is a vibrant student city located between
Bern and Lausanne. The AFC Lab is diverse and inclusive and offers varied and interesting
work in an inspiring research area with practical applications.
Start dates are negotiable (preferably from March 2020) and applications will be accepted
until positions are filled. Application documents should include a personal statement
detailing qualifications, career goals and research interests related to superior face
processing, as well as contact details of up to four references. Application documents and
informal inquiries should be sent to
