POSITION DESCRIPTION
To meet a one-time surge in the size of the Class of 2025, the Harvard College Writing
Program at Harvard University has a number of openings for one-term preceptorship
positions for the Spring 2022 semester beginning on January 1, 2022 and ending June 30,
2022, to teach Expository 20, the Program’s course that fulfills Harvard College’s
first-year writing requirement. Preceptors in this term-limited position will teach a
themed writing course that has been developed by the Program; each preceptor will teach
one or two sections of fifteen students per section. Salary and benefits are competitive.
Preceptors in this position will be eligible to apply for multi-year preceptorships that
begin in the academic year 2022-23, for which the Program will advertise nationally in
fall 2021.
Preference will be given to candidates with Ph.D.s or other terminal degrees in fields
that are taught at Harvard College, including fields in the sciences and social sciences,
or to candidates with MFAs; who have experience teaching fundamental analytical reading
and writing skills and sentence skills at the first-year college level; who demonstrate a
lively interest in issues of writing pedagogy and an innovative approach to the teaching
of communication skills.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate (or Doctorate nearly completed) in traditional liberal arts discipline taught in
Harvard College, including fields in the sciences and social sciences, or MFA or terminal
degree with relevant experience teaching writing in a field taught in Harvard College.
