Dear all,
George and James alerted me to the fact that some of the links on our Web
page did not work properly. There was no problem on my end since most of the
files are on my hard drive! Anyway, I hope to have fixed the links, so that
all of you can view the files. Please check. James added a couple of
valuable documents from CRL http://www.cohsl.net/ . As soon as the schedule
for our meeting in Athens has been finalized, I'll post the program.
It's remarkable that from its modest beginnings at Princeton only two years
ago, the Consortium has taken off as it has. Kudos to Rhea and Maria for all
your hard work and for putting together a very exciting and impressive
(preliminary) program! I so wish I can attend. Unfortunately, I have not
received an OK from Princeton yet. I have to attend the APA conference in
San Diego in early January since I chair a committee there. It's
questionable if I can get funding for both trips, especially since they are
so close in time to one another.
Anyway, I very much hope to see you in December or at a later date and plan
the launching of the GRN in cooperation with CRL and, possibly, an index to
MG studies!
All the best,
Rebecka Lindau

http://www.ascsa.edu.gr/blegen/b_index.htm and
follow the link to "Library News" and you'll see the current effort.
You can get an RSS feed from the news page if you use such things.
Comments are always welcome.

Dear Harry:
Thanks for emailing me with news from your latest trip to Greece. I am a
Greek immigrant and graduate library student. Your speech comes very handy to
me because I happen to be writing a paper about Greek collections in the
United States. You mentioned that your wrote it in English first. Is it
possible to view the English version? Thanks a lot. Harikleia

Dear colleagues,
I had a very interesting and (I think) successful acquisitions trip to
Athens last month, visiting bookdealers, bookstores, libraries, and
bibliographic agencies. If you'd like a copy of my trip report, please
get back to me off-list and I'll e-mail it out to you.
I also gave (at the request of the US Embassy in Athens) a talk the
evening of September 15 on LC and on Modern Greek collections in the US in
general. The talk, given in Greek, was in the Main Reading Room of the
National Library (I have to confess, I wrote it in English and the Embassy
translated it). The text has now been uploaded to the online journal
"Synergasia" (publication of the library committee representing several
foreign libraries in Athens) and you can see it at the following address:

Regards,
Harry

Dear CoHSL members:
We are in the final stages of organizing the Athens meeting! If you haven't
already done so, please confirm with me directly if you plan to
attend. Maria Georgopoulou and her colleagues at the Gennadius are working
hard on local arrangements and we are together planning the meeting
schedule which will bring us all together for the first time on Greek
soil. Our colleague Harry Leich, from the Library of Congress, is currently
in Athens on an acquisitions trip and I just have received word that he
made an excellent presentation at the Ethniki Vivliotheke (National Library
of Greece) and pitched our project and meeting to the audience which
consisted of several important players. (I am sure that Harry will give us
the full report upon his return.) Harry actually participated in the first
attempt at collaboration at the 1999 conference at LC, and has been a great
help to us in organizing this meeting.
Re: Hotel accommodations, we have received a special rate from the
Herodion Hotel, 4 Rovertou Galli str., Athens, which is located close to
the metro station ACROPOLIS, literally next to the new Acropolis Museum,
and minutes away from the site. You can check it out at:

If you would like to stay there, please contact Mr. Panos Zisimatos either

<mailto:herodion@herodion.gr>herodion(a)herodion.gr by the end of October
make your reservation. Please mention the Gennadius Library in order to
get the special price (which is 72,00 euro for one bed room and 90,00 euro
for a room with two bed). You will need to reserve with a credit card.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
All best,
