First Thousand Years of Greek/Open Greek and Latin Project-Updates Collaborative Opportunities (Greg Crane, Lenny Muellner, Lucie Stylianopoulos) 2. Collaborative collection development in the classics (General Discussion) "Collective collections" was the buzzword for 2017. Is your institution diving in? Balancing faculty/researchers' need for access to the very large and transdisciplinary corpus of primary and critical works in classics against shrinking budgets and lack of space. a. Creating the "collective collection": Ivy Plus, RECAP b. Electronic vs. print or both? c. Small publishers and esoteric publications: which institutions are collecting them? Can we work together for coverage? d. "Orphan titles" project, revisited, in the spirit of collaboration. 3. Acquiring classical studies materials from Greece. Special guest Kostas Papadopoulos, Director, Oionos Bookservices from Greece will be available to answer questions.

A project for cataloguing students or retirees Hithere, TheAmerican Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB), a collaborationbetween the Library of Congress and WGBH, has launched Roll the Credits, a new Zooniverse project to catalog unseen content in theironline archive. TheAAPB is coordinating a national effort to preserve at-risk publicmedia before its content is lost to posterity and provide a centralweb portal for access to the unique programming that public stationshave aired over the past 60 years. To date, over 50,000 hours oftelevision and radio programming contributed by more than 100 publicmedia organizations and archives across the United States have beendigitized for long-term preservation and access. The entirecollection is available on location at the Library of Congress andWGBH, and almost 25,000 programs are available online atamericanarchive.org. Asthe story goes, every picture tells a story, but with Roll the Credits, we’ve extracted the beginning and ending frames ofthousands of digitized public broadcasting programs that containvital metadata needed for researchers’ search and discovery, suchas titles, dates, credits, and copyright statements.Yourhelp in classifying and transcribing this information is directlyadded to the AAPB catalogue, making these programs not only moreaccessible to researchers, but also helping the AAPB archivistsidentify gaps in their archive and develop plans to make it morecomprehensive.Travelthe time-zones with us as AAPB releases historic, local public mediaprogramming each week! What is a collection? As a concept that signifies both an action (of gathering things together) and an entity (the things gathered), the collection raises important questions about how we create meaning through acts of selection, arrangement and description. The idea for this conference originates in a project that considers the literary historical and cultural significance of the author's personal collection (of books, papers and ephemera) as a repository of materials with culturally-informed organizational structures. Using such a hybrid collection of books, archival materials, furniture and personal memorabilia as a conceptual starting point, we invite scholars, archivists and librarians of all disciplines to choose their own examples and case studies of collections that will help us think about the nature and meaning of collections within their broader social and cultural contexts of creation and use. Some have sold here in town to faculty and students, but the rest are not online nor have they been on open shelves in my shop upstairs. The vast majority are not priced, as I priced only as people asked about a particular book. So, if you are in the area of SE Michigan - NW Ohio and are looking for books suitable for a university town or for online sales (many many of the books are over $15), come by, review the collection, and make an offer on the lot. All books are on shelves for review. Wholesale offers expected, of course. Need to move them on by Christmas.
