I am happy to report this news from Denise in Evia!

Dear Friends,
Please excuse this 'in common' note, but so many have written to ask about
how things are in our little patch of Evia I am not able to answer you all
individually at this moment. I hope to.
At this time of writing we are safe and the green valley of Katounia is
still green, but the direction and intensity of the fires which surround us
change all the time and although we are presently in our homes we are in a
state of constant alert and standby in case evacuation is necessary. We are
blessed with the friendship and support of many local people (as we were
five years ago when fire did come to Katounia and the forest around us was
burnt) and we feel secure we will not be left uninformed and without help
if it is needed should fire come to us here again.
But the destruction so far is tragic and heart-breaking. Houses burnt,
livelihoods destroyed, untold thousands of acres of forests and olive
groves and vineyards reduced to cinders. Just think of the tortoises! And
the fires are still burning. The face of northern Evia has already been
changed almost irrevocably. Έχει ο Θεός!
Thank you so very much for your concern and for writing.
With love,
Denise
