Greetings!
We have received a number of copies of the 2018 book, "A Village Murder"
and would like to place them in libraries in the USA. A preference is
given to schools that have a Modern Greek Studies program.
Details
Title: A Village Murder
Author: Jonathan Alexander Exaros
Publisher: Pennsylvania: Page Publishing, Inc., 2018.
Language: English
Paperback: 148 pages
Item Weight: 9.8 ounces
Dimensions: 5.98 x 0.4 x 9.02 inches
OCLC Number: 1057657064
Synopsis (From the back cover):
In the summer of 1928, an eleven-year-old American-born son of Greek
immigrants travels with his parents and siblings to Greece to visit
their family village. There, he witnesses the brutal murder of his
father and grandfather by Albanian bandits who were directed out of
revenge by "the man with a hole in his face." The young boy, his
distraught mother, and two of his siblings return to the United States a
year later, leaving behind one of his brothers in the hands of a wealthy
uncle and aunt who turn out to be abusive and neglectful. The younger
brother runs away and jumps a ship as a stowaway, where he is taken in
by an empathetic crew who helps him reunite with his family abroad. This
is the true story of the author's ancestors. He walks you through the
process from start to finish of what it was like to be an immigrant in
the early 1900s and chronicles the banditry that plagued the countryside
of Greece for decades. It is a story of personal tragedy, revenge, and
justice. But most of all, it is a story of community and survival.
--> Please let us know if you would like to receive this book to add to
your library. We will ship it free of charge within the USA while
supplies last.
Thank you,

The Athenian, a Historic Greek Magazine in English, Is Now Available Online
November 27, 2022
By The National Herald
ATHENS – The Athenian was the first English-language variety magazine
printed in Greece, from the final months of the Greek military dictatorship
in 1973 until 1997.
The vision of its creator, Greek-Canadian Helen Panopalis Kotsolis, was for
the magazine “to reflect the various cultures that converge here—and in the
process make life in Athens more interesting and understandable.”
Contributors included painter Alekos Fassianos, artist Yannis Gaitis,
cartoonist Spyros Ornerakis, poet and translator Kimon Friar, painter Loui
Silivridou-Pasalari, author and archaeologist Kevin Andrews, and cartoonist
Antonis Kalamaras, who provided articles, interviews, and cartoons with
cultural and political content.
Readers will now have access to an online version of the original print
magazine thanks to a project to digitize The Athenian’s archive. The
project, made possible through a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation
(SNF), aims to showcase cultural criticism and political commentary from
important personalities in Athenian public life at the time.
The historic magazine’s complete archive is freely accessible to the public
online at the-athenian.com, and individual articles about topical issues
will be posted to enrich the archive on an ongoing basis.

2023 ASSCSA Summer Session
The Summer Session program of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens is a six-week travel study course designed for those who wish to become acquainted with Greece and its major monuments, and to improve their understanding of the country’s landscape, history, material culture, and literature from antiquity to the present. The 2023 Summer Session runs from June 12 to July 26, 2023, and its Director is Professor Glenn R. Bugh of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Format: The ASCSA Summer Session has provided extensive exposure to Greece, ancient and modern, for generations of students of Classics and related fields. It has a strong academic component with participants researching and presenting topics on site and offers unique opportunities to interact with eminent archaeologists in the field. Roughly half of the session is spent in travel throughout Greece. Three trips give participants an introduction to the major archaeological sites and museum collections throughout the country. The remainder of the session is devoted to study of the museums and monuments of Athens and the surrounding area with day trips to such sites as Marathon, Sounion, and Eleusis. The Summer Session's commitment to presenting a comprehensive view of Greece's rich history and archaeology leads to long days and extensive walking in the hot Mediterranean summer. Participants must be able to cover very uneven, rocky terrain and endure temperatures well above 30ºC for extended periods.

2023 ASCSA Summer Seminars
The Summer Seminars of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens are 18-day programs that focus on specific cultural themes, historical periods, or geographical regions. The Seminars are led by exceptional scholars of Classics and related fields. Under their direction, participants study texts, visit archaeological sites and museums, and engage with expert guest speakers in order to deepen their understanding of Greece’s landscape, history, literature, and material culture.
For Summer 2023, the two seminars are:
The Archaeology of Caves in Greece: Cult and Life through the Ages (June 5 to June 23, 2023)
Participants will investigate life and cult stretching from the Paleolithic period to today, through archaeological and anthropological research focusing on caves. The course examines caves as living entities that actively shape local cultures as centers of cult, active arenas of archaeological exploration, nodes of complex economic and religious landscapes, and major archaeological sites doubling as tourist attractions with a major impact on local economies. Attention will be paid to caves as carstic phenomena that have attracted various forms of human action (habitation, exploitation, cult, refuge, shelter) for millennia. The seminar will visit several caves as well as significant nearby sites and museums (e.g. Delphi, Athenian Acropolis). Taught by Professors Amy and Nassos Papalexandrou (University of Texas at Austin).
Locating Ancient Gender and Sexuality (July 3 - July 21, 2023)
This seminar examines discourse about gender and sexuality within distinct cultures of ancient Greece, articulated through association with cities, sanctuaries, and liminal spaces. The program is structured through a comparative framework, studying social systems across space and time: analyzing Athens and its rivals of the classical period, Sparta, Corinth and Thebes. Literary traditions will be brought into conversation with archaeological evidence and the landscapes of Greece. Taught by Professors Kate Gilhuly and Bryan Burns (Wellesley College).
Internationally known scholars of Greek history, art, and archaeology will participate as guest lecturers in both seminars. Students are expected to give on-site reports, which they will prepare in their home libraries before the program begins. Committed to presenting a comprehensive view of Greece's rich history and archaeology, these seminars involve long days and extensive walking, often over uneven terrain, in the hot Mediterranean summer, where many days over 30ºC can be expected.

The annual scholarly initiative of the Cavafy Archive and the Onassis

his poetry’s impact in the world from new cultural and academic
perspectives.
Since its inauguration in 2017, the International Cavafy Summer School has
aimed to enrich and strengthen participants’ knowledge of Cavafy’s poetry
and to encourage future research collaborations between junior and senior
scholars from diverse disciplines. Themes explored in previous Summer
Schools include “Cavafy in the World,” “Cavafy and Antiquity,” “Cavafy’s
