[apologies for cross-posting]
IFLA’s Rare Books and Special Collections Section jointly with the
Preservation and Conservation Core Activity are pleased to announce the
following call for papers:
*Theme:*
*"Theft in libraries – facing the hidden truth"*
The IFLA Rare Books and Special Collections Section
<http://www.ifla.org/rare-books-and-special-collections> and the Preservation
and Conservation Core Activity <http://www.ifla.org/pac>invites interested
professionals to submit proposals for this open session to be held in
Columbus, Ohio, USA from 13-19 August 2016.
Theft in libraries and archives, by staff as well as outsiders, is an ever
present problem many institutions face. The session aims are to highlight
the importance of recording thefts internationally with the aim to
de-stigmatise the reporting of thefts (something which still many libraries
will not make publicly aware). It will also look at methods of raising
public awareness towards provenance of cultural heritage items, and to
continue to build bridges between the curatorial and commercial arms of the
cultural heritage profession.
We therefore invite proposals for papers which outline theft incidents
within libraries and archives in recent years, particularly from
collections which have experienced theft incidents, in order to set the
scene for the overall session and help to de-stigmatise the reporting of
theft in libraries. The session will be comprised of three presentations
from recent incidents of library or archive theft and then a panel
discussion on the topic which will include the presenters of the three
papers as well as invited respondents from the curatorial, commercial and
legal spheres of cultural heritage.
Proposals for papers should be *no more than one page in length*. If
selected, speakers will have 15 minutes to present their situation.
Submissions
Proposals should be sent by *29 February 2016* to (to *both* addresses):
*Daryl Green*
Email: dtg4(a)st-andrews.ac.uk
*Julia Brungs*
Email: Julia.brungs(a)ifla.org
*Proposals should include the following information:*
- Name, title, and institution of speaker(s)
- Title of proposed presentation
- Address and email address of speaker(s)
- Brief biographical statement about each speaker including information
about the qualifications of the speaker to address the proposed topic
- One or two paragraph discussion of the main points of the paper
including an outline of the takeaways a conference attendee will obtain by
having the topic presented at the conference
- Language of presentation (please note the session will have no
simultaneous interpretation)
- Contact information for response to the proposal
Important dates
All proposals must be received by *29 February 2016*.
The contact person for each proposal will be informed by *4 April 2016* whether
their proposal has been accepted or not.
The authors will be required to submit the full, at least 5 pages paper for
inclusion in the program. It must be written in one the official languages
of IFLA by *16 May 2016*.
Please note
Authors are required to permit non-exclusive publication of papers chosen
for this session on the IFLA website and digital library. Papers that are
accepted but not presented in person at the conference will not be made
available on the official conference website nor will they be considered
for nomination as a best paper of the conference.
At least one of the paper’s authors must be present to deliver a summary of
the paper during the program in Columbus, Ohio. Abstracts should only be
submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the
conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of
accepted papers.
All papers that are presented at the WLIC 2016 will be made available
online via the IFLA Library <http://library.ifla.org/> under the Creative
Commons Attribution 4.0 license
<https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/>.
Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Authors’ Permission Form
<http://forms.ifla.org/node/add/wlic-authors-permission-form>.
All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel,
accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No
financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter
<http://2016.ifla.org/registration/letter-of-invitation-visa-requirements>can
be issued to authors.

The Benaki Museum has great pleasure in announcing that its journal, which
has been published on an annual basis since 2001, is now available in
electronic form. The journal *Mouseio Benaki *has established itself at
international level as an academic forum for archaeologists, ethnographers,
anthropologists, historians, art historians, museologists and researchers
in many other disciplines. The Benaki Museum website has regularly
contained the cover, list of contents and abstracts of articles for each
issue of the periodical.
2014 marks a new era for the journal: thanks to a collaboration with the
National Documentation Centre (EKT), past copies as well as forthcoming
issues of *Mouseio Benaki*, together with its supplements, will be
published in print and online, thus making it easily accessible to both the
academic community and the general public.

Colleagues,
I'm forwarding a message I received about an opportunity to translate Alice's Adventures in Wonderland into Ancient Greek for any interested Classicists you may know. See below from John Lindseth, with e-mail address.
------------
I am Jon Lindseth, general editor of Alice in a World of Wonderlands: The Translations of Lewis Carroll's Masterpiece. 2015, Oak Knoll Press. The book covers the translations of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in 174 languages. Alice exists in Modern Greek and I am looking for a translator into Ancient Greek.
I have a publisher for the book and the translator retains copy right and gets a royalty on copies sold. There is no fee for the translation and no time limit on the task.
If you have a prospect please let me know.
Thank you, Jon Lindseth (jalindseth(a)aol.com<mailto:jalindseth@aol.com>)

Amongst the estate collection of 1970's material I found this item of
interest :
Kallias, Konstantinos M.
He ideologia tis Neas Demokratias. Athens: Neas Demokratias [?]
1976. Softcover. *Ex-Library.*
Political manifesto issued as Greek political institutions were recovering
from the Junta period. 108p. This copy has the usual marks of library
ownership and, in addition, is marred by some underlinings and a very
shabby worn cover but despite the condition it is somewhat important for
its period content.
[WorldCat lists only 4 copies in the USA]

Libraries today are situated at a point of convergence: where traditional
and innovative ideas, formats, and practices come together. The SUNYLA 2016
annual conference will explore convergence in academic libraries, including
how we navigate the convergence of print and digital worlds; how we balance
successful methods of the past with the drive to continuously improve our
spaces and services for the future; how all the departments and people
within a library work together to achieve our goals; and how libraries grow
stronger by collaborating with each other. Please join us at Binghamton
University, State University of New York, on June 8–10, 2016, as we
ourselves converge in order to share knowledge and strengthen our libraries.
We invite all SUNY and non-SUNY librarians and staff to submit proposals
for pre-conference workshops and conference presentations in the following
tracks:
· Reference and Instruction
· Cataloging and Technical Services
· Archives and Special Collections
· Systems and Technology
· Collection Development
· Public Services and Interlibrary Loan
