A nice nostalgic item .. but with a minor cataloguing problem Lampros, Spyridon Pavlou. To Heroon tou Agonos; 40 tetrachromiai kat' antigraphen ton en Monacho eikonon tou Phon Hes. Met' epexegematikou keimenou. Athens: Epanatypose Demokratikos Typos, 2013. Facsimile Edition. Decorative Hardcover. Facsimile of a publication originally issued by Hellenike Ekdotike Hetaireia in 1910 containing 40 coloured lithographs illustrating the heroes and events of the 1821 Greek War of Independance. These nostalgic patriotic images adorned the walls of innumerable Greek Kafenia for decades! [Large format book 14"x11"] NOTE : There are only 2 US copies of the original edition listed in WorldCat. In the OCLA record [# 46987652] the pictures are attributed to Heinrich Maria von Hess (who has no known connection to Greece) whereas his brother Peter Heinrich Lambert von Hess was closely involved with King Otto : <<In 1833, at Ludwig <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_I_of_Bavaria>'s request, he accompanied Otto of Greece <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_of_Greece> to the newly formed Kingdom of Greece, where at Athens <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athens> he gathered materials for pictures of the war of liberation. *Friends of the Princeton University Library Research Grant Program* Each year, the Friends of the Princeton University Library offer short-term Library Research Grants to promote scholarly use of the library’s research collections. Up to $3,500 is available per award. Applications will be considered for scholarly use of archives, manuscripts, rare books, and other rare and unique holdings of the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, including Mudd Library; as well as rare books in Marquand Library of Art and Archaeology, and in the East Asian Library (Gest Collection). Special grants are awarded in several areas: the Program in Hellenic Studies supports a limited number of library fellowships in Hellenic studies, and the Cotsen Children’s Library supports research in its collection on aspects of children’s books. The Maxwell Fund supports research on materials dealing with Portuguese-speaking cultures. The Sid Lapidus '59 Research Fund for Studies of the Age of Revolution and the Enlightenment in the Atlantic World covers work using materials pertinent to this topic. Transcripts from Markopoulos' diary regarding the filming of "Serenity"and the subsequent problems "Serenity, it was based on a novel by Elias Venezis depicting the aftermath of the Greco-Turkish conflict of 1920-21. Revolving around the symbolic image of a rose garden, the film was to take place largely in the memory of its principal female character, the wife of an idealistic young physician exiled in the postwar diaspora. Color shooting finally began in 1958, under trying conditions (some scenes could only be filmed in one take), with a soundtrack recorded in English, Greek, German and Russian. A first version was then edited in Rome. After that a dire, truly Byzantine struggle with the film's producers ensued that lasted over two years, exhausting and discouraging the filmmaker. During that time he continued to work on scenarios, three of which would be the bases of his major works of the 1960s. A trucated version of Serenity was finally premiered at Spoleto in 1961 and a longer edit was shown three times in the U.S. before disappearing entirely, forfeited by the director in return for his fee.
