Dear colleagues:
The next symposium of the Modern Greek Studies Association (MGSA) will be held November 2-5, 2017, at Stockton University in New Jersey (near Atlantic City). Since the deadline for submission of proposals for panels, other sessions, and individual papers is in January 2017 (only 4 months away), an ad hoc organizing group of four of us (Rhea Lesage, George Paganelis, Dia Phillipides, and I) talked by phone yesterday to start planning for at least one panel and one "special session," each on bibliography, libraries, and archives, for the 2017 symposium.
The detailed definitions, instructions, and rules for panels and special sessions are at: http://mgsasymposium.org/cfp.html . Please take a look at these and let me or any of the others on the ad hoc organizing group know if you would be interested in participating.
We envision the "special session" as a lunch-time discussion, probably 1.5 hours, with scholars and students in Modern Greek studies interacting with bibliographers, librarians, and archivists on how to get access to needed research resources. The tentative title is "Conducting Research in Modern Greek Studies."
A more formal panel would also be nice to have, the tentative title at this point is "Recent developments in Modern Greek libraries, archives, bibliography." We have several tentative papers proposed already. The paper proposals are reviewed blindly by the Symposium program committee, and the abstracts therefore cannot have any identifying information about the paper-giver. It would be especially nice and timely to have a paper on recent and significant digital developments, to follow up on the digital-related presentations made in 2006 at the Consortium meeting at the Gennadius Library in Athens.
Please contact any or all of us organizers with your ideas - here is our contact information:

> The Society invites applications for its annual Katharine Pantzer Senior
Fellowship in Bibliography and the British Book Trades as well as its
annual short-term fellowships, all of which support bibliographical inquiry
and research in the history of the book trades and in publishing history.
Eligible topics may concentrate on books and documents in any field, but
should focus on the book or manuscript (the physical object) as historical
evidence. Such topics may include establishing a text or studying the
history of book production, publication, distribution, collecting, or
reading. Thanks to the generosity of donors, certain special fellowships
support research in particular areas of study. Applicants should therefore
read the fellowship titles and guidelines here to determine project
eligibility and fit. Please note: these fellowships do not support
enumerative bibliography (i.e. the preparation of lists). Individuals who
have not received support in the previous five years will be given
preference. All fellowships require a project report within one year of
receipt of the award, and a copy of any subsequent publications resulting
from the project, to be sent to the BSA.

We are appointing a permanent Assistant Curator of Rare Books to join the
team based in the Weston Library. Reporting to the Head of Rare Books and
Printed Ephemera, this is an exciting opportunity to develop your knowledge
and skills, and to make a significant contribution in all areas of our work.
You will be responsible for cataloguing all early printed books acquired by
the Section throughout the year; for answering the large numbers of
enquiries and research requests we receive, and for developing and
maintaining our online presence with informative and relevant content,
including revamping our current web pages. You will also support senior
staff with a range of other tasks including acquisitions, reader services,
exhibitions, projects, training, and collections management.
You will have an appropriate degree and a professional library
qualification or equivalent and knowledge of Latin and at least one other
modern European language. Previous experience working with rare books,
demonstrable knowledge and/or formal training of historical and descriptive
bibliography and sound knowledge of modern and antiquarian cataloguing
standards. You will have excellent IT skills, and be confident working with
a range of databases, content management systems, and social media

wider public, and have excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
You will be committed to building your career in this field, and should
expect to develop expertise in areas such as early children’s books, 19th
century bibliography, English literature, or the history of science.
There will be significant amounts of unpacking, shelving and carrying of
collection materials, some of which may be large and/or heavy.
This is a full-time, permanent post. Evening and Saturday duties will be
required on a rota basis.
Owing to the nature of this post, candidates will be required to undertake
a Disclosure Scotland check as well as a financial background check. The
possession of a criminal record or poor financial background will not
necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are
judged individually according to the nature of the role and information
provided.
This post is part of a pilot scheme testing a new Supporting Evidence Form
in place of the more usual ‘supporting statement’. Please ensure that you
carefully read the How to Apply section provided in the Job Description,
which you can download below along with the required Supporting Evidence
form. You MUST submit a completed Supporting Evidence Form in order for
your application to be processed. Covering letters, supporting statements
and CVs will NOT form part of the selection process.
Only applications received online before 12.00 midday on Monday 19
September 2016 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on
Tuesday 4 October 2016.
