*2020 Belle da Costa Greene Curatorial Fellowships *
The Morgan Library & Museum announces the creation of two new two-year
curatorial fellowships, the Belle da Costa Greene Curatorial Fellowships,
to be awarded to promising scholars from communities historically
underrepresented in the curatorial and special collections fields.
Named for the Morgan’s first director, one of the most prominent American
librarians and cultural leaders of the first half of the twentieth century,
this full-time program will equip Fellows with a strong working knowledge
of museum and special collections library operations and will provide
Fellows with resources and mentorship to support them in their professional
careers.
The program will provide Fellows with experience in a variety of core
curatorial activities, such as exhibition and publications planning,
research on the collection and on potential acquisitions, the creation of
public programs, and donor relations. Fellows will also have the
opportunity to propose and curate their own installation in the museum.
Fellows will join all departmental meetings as well as the Morgan’s
Curatorial Forum, a monthly gathering of all curators and conservators.
Regular interaction with colleagues in other departments, including the
Thaw Conservation Center, will give each Fellow a good grounding in the key
functional areas of a museum and special collections library. Travel funds
will support Fellows’ professional development.
All candidates must apply to work on specific projects in curatorial
departments, as outlined on the fellowship announcement page:
https://www.themorgan.org/opportunities/fellowships/greene-fellowship
*Eligibility *
Graduate degree in relevant field or equivalent professional experience
required. General qualifications include experience conducting archival
research using primary sources, deep intellectual curiosity and
versatility, and a demonstrated ability to work independently,
collaboratively, and efficiently. Candidates should have excellent writing
and public speaking skills.
*Compensation and Benefits*
$42,000 annually for two years (from September 2020 to August 2022);
excellent benefits. Fellows will also have a travel budget of $1500 per
year for research and for activities supporting their professional
development, such as attendance at a conference.
*How to Apply*
Fellows will be selected on a competitive basis via an application process
consisting of the following elements:
- A cover letter addressing the candidate’s interest in a Belle da Costa
Greene Curatorial Fellowship in one or more of the Morgan’s curatorial
departments. The letter should discuss the applicant’s interest and
qualifications in the department or departments’ subject area in general,

Change the Subject: Documentary Screening and Town Hall
"A documentary about libraries, labels, and activism," *Change the

spotlight, and how a Library of Congress subject heading became a
flashpoint in the immigration debate on Capitol Hill.
This special event is hosted by the Columbia University Libraries.

After graduating from the University of Miami, Dave Abrams (1919-2005)
joined Pan American Airways and worked for 42 years as a meteorologist,
navigator and Director of Flight Operations for Latin America. Abrams was
instrumental in the formation of The Pan Am Historical Foundation after the

archives and memorabilia.
Gene Banning (1918-2006) was one of the longest serving pilots for Pan Am.
His aviation days started with the infamous flying boats in 1941 and ended
with Boeing 747s in 1978. An avid researcher, Banning was a guiding member
of The Pan Am Historical Foundation from its inception and the author of

Recognizing the demographic shifts in academic libraries, changing nature
of job descriptions to be more fluid and responsive to emerging trends, and
the ongoing issue of professional burn-out, there is a need to better
understand how librarians conceive and perceive the trajectories of their
career paths.
Principal investigators Lori Birrell and Marcy Strong have adopted the
Kaleidoscope
Career Model (Mainiero, et al), which uses three phases: *challenge*,
*authenticity*, and *balance*, as a non-linear approach to understanding
the mapping of career trajectories, agency and decision-making power to the
individual, rather than the organization, based on the person’s own values
and choices. Applying this model in the academic librarian context, we seek
to better understand where those pivot points exist for professionals, and
more broadly how these decisions impact their sense of satisfaction with
their career trajectories, and sense of support they receive from their
employers.
This survey contains questions about your experiences and/or feelings
concerning how you conceive of and perceive of your career path.
All academic librarians currently working in a professional role are
invited to participate in this study by responding to the survey linked
here: https://uark.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9n2eqWXnJImxEYl. The survey
will remain open until November 12th.
Please email Lori Birrell at lori(a)birrell.us or Marcy Strong at
strongstuff(a)gmail.com with any questions you may have. Additional details
about the project can be found in the survey introduction.

Good afternoon,
The Web Resources for the Rare Material Cataloger Editorial Group is
pleased to announce the launch of the redesigned *Web Resources for the
Rare Materials Cataloger* online resource.
The *Web Resources for the Rare Materials Cataloger* directory aims to
gather together freely-available online resources to aid in the cataloging
of rare and special collections materials. This valuable resource has been
diligently maintained for over twenty years by Laurence Creider, Professor
Emeritus and former Department Head of Archives and Special Collections at
the New Mexico State University Library, under the sponsorship of the RBMS
Bibliographic Standards Committee and with the technological support of the
New Mexico State University Library. In 2018, the Bibliographic Standards
Committee formed the Web Resources for the Rare Materials Cataloger
Editorial Group to migrate the resource to the RMBS website and assume the
ongoing maintenance of the resource.
*Web Resources for the Rare Materials Cataloger* can now be found at its
new home: http://rbms.info/cat-resources/ . Though a url redirect has been
put in place, please update your browser's bookmark to reflect the new
address.
The redesigned site remains a work in progress and the Web Resources for
the Rare Materials Cataloger Editorial Group will continue to improve and
maintain it going forward. Feedback is always appreciated. Please use the
contact form to share any thoughts or suggestions on how we could improve
the site or new resources to be added:
