Dear colleagues,
Please see email to me below, and attachment. Let me have any suggestions you may have for a library/archives/bibliography question or questions to include on the proposed new MGSA website. It seems they want this information asap, of course, so if you could get back to me by October 25, that would be great. I will collate the responses and get back to _Prof. Doxiades.
Please note also that I have retired (effective July 31, 2019) from my position as Area Specialist for Modern Greece and Russia in the European Division of LC. With the Russia part of the job covered by a worthy successor who started in May, I am currently serving, on a volunteer basis, for Modern Greek collection development and public service, until a specialist for Greece can be hired - the process has apparently begun, with a posting expected by the end of the year. Since I am at LC only one day per week, and can access my LC email only on-site, please use my personal email to contact me: hale1652(a)yahoo.com or call/text my cell phone: 202-904-0841
Thanks, best regards to all,
Harry ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Evdoxios Doxiadis <evdoxios_doxiadis(a)sfu.ca>To: hale1652(a)yahoo.com <hale1652(a)yahoo.com>Cc: Evdoxios Doxiadis <evdoxios_doxiadis(a)sfu.ca>Sent: Sunday, October 13, 2019, 7:43:48 PM EDTSubject: MGSA Questionnaire
Dear Mr Leich,
I believe you were sent by Frank Hess a draft of a questionnaire the MGSA executive board plans to send out to our members for consultation regarding the redesign of the website. If you did not receive it I am attaching it below. As the representative of the MGSA librarians I would appreciate if you had any comments especially since with the redesign some options become available as for instance for the librarian committee to have control/stewardship of a bibliographical section for example. We plan to send out the questionnaire soon so if you have any comments please let me know asap.
All the best

Research in Modern Greek Political and Social History
Deadline: January 15, 2020
The George Papaioannou Fellowship was established by Mrs. Nadia Tzevelekou – Papaioannou to honor her father George Papaioannou. This fellowship is offered every other year. A doctor by training and elected to the Greek parliament in 1933, George Papaioannou was the leader of the Trichonis (in Aitolia-Acarnania) sub-division of the National Republican Greek League (EDES). After the end of the Greek Civil War, he served again as a member of the Greek Parliament and a mayor of Agrinion.
The George Papaioannou Papers housed in the Archives of the ASCSA contain material relating to the Greek Civil War, as well as information about the recognition, in 1969, of the EDES guerilla fighters’ contribution to the Greek Resistance during the Second World War. Other materials include photographs, reports by Napoleon Zervas (the leader of EDES), correspondence between Papaioannou and the decorated British saboteur Major Menotti G. McAdam (1944), and several issues of local newspapers from the 1950-1960s. For more information see: http://www.ascsa.edu.gr/index.php/archives/george-papaioannou-papers-catalo… <http://www.ascsa.edu.gr/index.php/archives/george-papaioannou-papers-catalo…>
Eligibility: Awarded to both senior and early career scholars – including PhD candidates – of any nationality researching Greece in the 1940’s and the post-war period, civil wars and the history of the Second World War. The fellowship is open to all areas of social science, but priority shall be given to historians and political scientists. Fellows are required to make use of and refer to the George Papaioannou Papers housed at the Archives of the Gennadius Library.
