Dear CoHSL members,
I have received feedback from one member who did not receive this posting
so I want to be sure that everyone has gotten the latest detailed program
that was sent on Nov. 17th, along with the list of attendees. We should
have one more final program ready to be distributed by the end of the week.
Thanks to those who have volunteered to take notes, I really appreciate
your help.
Best regards,
Rhea

Dear Friends,
Please see attached announcements of upcoming APOLOGY performances in
Athens, on December 4 in Greek at Theatro Denise and on December 6 in
English at the Athens College Choremi Theatre.
The December 6 performance is for the Center for Hellenic &
Mediterranean Studies (DIKEMES), and though admission is by invitation
only, exceptions will be made for my friends or their friends in
Athens.
Our December 4 benefit performance is in support of the Center for the
Defense of Human Rights at Athens, a UN affiliated NGO active in
minority issues, migrants and refugees, gender equality and human
trafficking. I urge you to consider putting together a group of
friends and joining us – it will be an evening to remember and a
worthy cause.
Thank you!
Yannis Simonides

Glenda,
We don't have a large number of the "Hellenes" series in our collection,
but I do know that Cactus (Kaktos) has been publishing them for some
time and a visiting faculty member from Greece has recommended the
series to me. There are nearly 700 volumes already at quite affordable
prices. See their Web site: http://www.kaktos.com/, where you can browse
their entire catalog.
Best,
George

Hello,
There is some interest on my campus (University of Washington) to
acquire a select few of the titles in the Cactus Editions "The Hellenes"
series...translations of the Greek classics into modern Greek.
Are any of you collecting this series? If so, any comments about
quality of translations or the physical books themselves?
Thanks very much. I really, really wish I could join you at the
Gennadius Library next month. And again, the Gennadius acquisitions
lists are invaluable to me, as a new Modern Greek selector.

End of CoHSL-list Digest, Vol 17, Issue 2
*****************************************
Dear CoHSL members:
I am pleased to announce that we are in the final stages of planning the
Modern Greek Resources Project that will take place Dec. 7th-10th at the
Gennadius Library of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
There are thirty-eight confirmed participants from the U.S. and Greece,
with one representative from the U.K. and one from Vienna. We are very
pleased with the enthusiasm of the group and hope that with such
participation we can bring this project forward!
I am attaching the short version of the schedule of events to give members
of the list an idea of how the meeting will be structured. To those who
have confirmed participation with me, I will send a more detailed schedule
next week, along with the list of participants. My co-chair Maria
Georgopoulou and I still need to work out a few more details.
Best regards,
Rhea
