Job Ad: Assistant Director of the School (1-year), position in Athens

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF THE SCHOOL <https://ascsa.submittable.com/submit/e4533bf8-8974-44ed-a775-2301aa152b6a/a…> POSITION IN ATHENS Deadline: July 5, 2024 Term: A full-time position beginning in August 2024 for one year, ending August 2025. Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, the position includes room and partial board at the School, health and life insurance, contributions to a retirement plan, relocation costs and a travel allowance. Qualifications: Candidates must have earned the Ph.D. no more than five years prior to the application and must have spent at least one academic year as a Member of the ASCSA. An active agenda for research, knowledge of Greece and Modern Greek, and teaching experience are expected. Duties: The Assistant Directorship is a primarily administrative position with just over half the expected hours including but not limited to the following: Assist the Director in the administration of School business and stand in for the Director when needed. Reports to the Director of the School. Assist all members with school-related business, maintain clear lines of communication between members and departments of the school both in Greece and Princeton, and advise members of relevant Greek government policies and regulations. Assist in managing the Summer Programs by suggesting itineraries, speakers, and supporting the Summer Program Directors as needed; not responsible for making actual arrangements; required to be in Athens during the programs (June-early August). Work with the Director of Communications in Princeton both to manage workflows related to Social Media and to assist in development and coordination of postings from programs and departments in Athens. Manage the School’s wellness program for members by creating a calendar of activities in support of members’ health and well-being. Be a visible presence in the Athenian academic and social scene by attending functions as an official of the School. The Assistant Directorship includes teaching opportunities comprising roughly a quarter of the expected hours: Assist with the academic program in ways that build on the Assistant Director’s areas of expertise and interest. Specific activities, such as lecturing on trips during the academic year and contributing to or developing short courses or seminars, will be determined through consultation with the Mellon Professor and the Director of the School. The Assistant Directorship includes the expectation of research comprising roughly a quarter of the expected hours. Make substantial progress on a clearly defined research agenda. Note: the need to support the Summer Programs and assist new arrivals throughout June and July precludes extended substantive participation in midsummer archaeological fieldwork.
