We continue to subscribe to the original L'Annee Philologique platform. We did a trial of the Ebsco version-three years ago-and there wasn't any interest on the part of the faculty to move. Dear Rhea, We also did a trial (of the EBSCO platform) three years ago and library users who sent their feedback, were in favor of keeping the original platform. "Easier to search" and to "order the results by date of publication" were some of the comments in favor of "L´ année" original interface. Given the fact that the original platform is updated daily, I don´t see us moving to the EBSCO interface any time soon. Dear colleagues, Thanks to those who replied to my question, on and off line. Some have asked me to share the results of my query. I received 6 responses who chose one platform over the other: 4 who have trialed the Ebsco but stayed with the original platform; 2 recommend Ebsco. One reply indicated that it really depends on the audience: "Most faculty and researchers are used to the AP interface and want the most current content; majors will learn it easily enough. I'm not sure that AP is really that suitable for an undergraduate writing a paper on the Oresteia or Homer for a gen ed course; the more generic Ebsco databases will cover that just fine." While I didn't get much of a response either way from students and faculty, I didn't see much if any of an advantage to switching to EBSCO other than familiarity with the interface. Do we decided to stick with the original platform. The existing APh interface seems to work well enough for students and faculty and it does now have features such as link resolution. Its shortcomings have more to do with the underlying index then the interface and these largely resurface in EBSCO, in some cases in more marked form-I got the impression the database was being shoe-horned into the EBSCO interface and not everything meshed very well, though this could have improved subsequently." "We did look at the Ebsco version a couple of years ago and passed on it. I have a personal subscription to AP and would have kept it even if I had the Ebsco available free." "Haven't tested the Ebsco interface recently, but when we did, there were a lot of problems with the language limiters, and some confusion about the rubrics as described in the native vs. ebsco iterations. We're sticking with the native for now." Here are the comments for the Ebsco switch: "We moved to the EBSCO interface not long after it was offered. The familiar interface, link resolvers, and full-text content available within EBSCO made the switch appealing even if the updates were slower in coming." "I'd go with the EBSCO platform. After all, L'Annee used to come out about three years behind in its print edition. And I believe that most people in the loop will have pre-prints of articles. Grad students, maybe less so.
