Dear Deb and Rhea,
The petition is well written and certainly spells out clearly the problems for users and
library staff that LC's change will create. This is particularly a problem for the
catalog at my university as virtually all of our Modern Greek materials are cataloged by
OCLC Techpro. With our current staffing, I really cannot imagine that we would be able to
manage any retrospective cleanup. Thank you so much for doing this, Jacquie

Subject: [Cohsl-list] online petition against Mod Greek transliteration changes
Dear colleagues,
The petition Rhea Lesage (Head and Bibliographer for Modern Greek, Widener Library,
Harvard College Library) and I created to protest the Library of Congress's changes
to the modern Greek transliteration table is posted here:
http://www.petitiononline.com/mdgk0310/petition.html It is long, but we hope that it will
explain our many concerns to the broader Hellenic studies community and to LC as well. Our
goal is to stop the implementation of the changed table until there can be more input and
planning.
LC's deadline for our comments is Wednesday, March 31 so we would like to collect as
many signatures as possible before then. The petition can continue to grow after March 31
but may not be as effective.
Please read over and sign if you agree (you can choose to keep your e-mail address private
from anyone who views the petition, including me), and please distribute to any
appropriate listservs, faculty, and researchers.
With thanks,
Deb
