From Matt Baggetta...
Jessica,
I hope all is well in snowy Boston. For folks on
the market, I just got word of a new open search
in Philanthropic Studies at IUPUI (see attached).
I took a look at the "PhDs on the Market" page and
no one jumped out at me as a perfect fit based on
dissertation titles, but anyone whose past
research (and future plans) includes studying
nonprofit organizations, civil society, voluntary
associations, and the like would certainly fit the
"broad definition" that the Center uses (as
evidence: I'm a faculty affiliate at the Center now).
Best,
--Matt

I'm emailing from The Tobin Project, a well-funded, non-profit,
non-partisan organization located in Cambridge, Massachusetts that works
at the nexus of academia and public policy. We have a research analyst
position that will be open beginning in Late Spring/Summer 2011, and I
was hoping that you could circulate this email to students or alumni
that you think might be interested. I've listed a short description of
the opportunity below and have also attached a document that includes
the full job description and application instructions. The application
deadline is *March 1, 2011*.
Thank you for sharing this, and please don't hesitate to be in touch if
you have any questions.
*Full-Time Research Analyst Opportunity*
The Tobin Project is currently seeking a full-time Research Analyst to
work within and across our three domestic program areas: Government &
Markets, Institutions of Democracy, and Economic Inequality. Research
analysts work as part of a high-performing team to identify promising
topics for research, design and organize opportunities for scholars and
policymakers to collaborate, and explore innovations that could spur and
disseminate new policy-relevant research. As part of their work,
analysts frequently enter into dialogue with top scholars and
policymakers about some of the nation's most pressing societal
challenges. Research analysts develop competencies in research, project
design and coordination, organizational strategy, and external
communications. Research Analyst responsibilities will be especially
stimulating and suitable for individuals considering future careers in
academia or in the public policy arena. Past analysts have gone on to
top ranked graduate programs in the social sciences and business.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's or master's degree in a
behavioral or social science and a strong commitment to using scholarly
research to inform public policy.
*About the Tobin Project*
Only six years old, Tobin has successfully built and proven the model
for how to engage a network of top scholars and policymakers on vital
questions; how to advance new interdisciplinary research agendas; and
how to disseminate compelling ideas that have the potential to reshape
academic research, public policy formation, and overall public
discourse. Tobin has organized a series of highly productive
conferences, seminars, and workshops; seeded groundbreaking new
research; created a collaborative online technology platform for
scholars; produced several books across our program areas; and
influenced key aspects of financial regulatory reform on consumer
protection and systemic risk. The Project is energized by its impact to
date, and by its potential to change---and improve---fundamental ideas
about the interplay between democratic government and markets.
