The Penn Center for the Study of Ethnicity, Race and Immigration (CSERI) invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral research fellowship in the social sciences, starting August 1, 2017.
The Center for the Study of Ethnicity, Race and Immigration is a new center initiative supported by the University of Pennsylvania and the School of Arts and Sciences which, in addition to this post-doctoral fellowship, will host visiting scholars and graduate students, help organize workshops initiated by the center's Faculty Advisory Council, and support graduate and undergraduate student social science research at Penn.
The 2017-2018 CSERI Postdoctoral Research Fellow will collaborate with Center Director Michael Jones-Correa and other center faculty affiliates on research projects related to race and ethnic relations and/or immigrant political incorporation in the United States; help organize and participate in faculty/graduate student workshops; and aid in evaluating the progress of graduate students and undergraduates receiving research grants. In addition, the Fellow will have the opportunity to pursue their own research and participate more generally in the intellectual life of the Penn community. There are no mandatory teaching responsibilities.
The stipend for the postdoctoral fellowship is $50,000 plus relevant fees and health insurance. The position also provides $1,000 in research support.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applications are welcome from scholars who have received their Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in the last two years (not earlier than 2014), or who expect to complete their degree by June 2017.
Skills with statistical analysis, qualitative software, GIS, experimental and other approaches are highly desirable

The Harvard College Writing Program at Harvard University has several openings for preceptorship positions for the 2017-18 academic year beginning on July 1, 2017, to teach Expository 20, the Program’s course that fulfills Harvard College’s freshman writing requirement. Each preceptor develops a writing course on an academic topic and teaches one or two sections per semester of fifteen students per section. Preceptors are eligible for multi-year contracts. Salary and benefits are competitive. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph.D.s or other terminal degrees in fields that are taught at Harvard College, or to candidates with MFAs; who have experience in the teaching of academic argument at the college level; who demonstrate a lively interest in issues of writing pedagogy and an innovative approach to the teaching of freshman communication skills; and who enjoy collaborating with colleagues on assignment design and program development. I am writing on behalf of Prof. Irwin Garfinkel and Dr. Christopher Wimer to announce that the Center on Poverty and Social Policy at the Columbia University School of Social Work and the Columbia Population Research Center are recruiting two postdoctoral research scholars.
One postdoc will work with faculty and staff to conduct new analyses of national, state, and city trends in poverty using an improved measure of poverty based on the supplemental poverty measure (SPM) recently developed by the United States Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The other will support a project on the costs, benefits and distributional consequences of alternative policy packages to halve U.S. child poverty.
