FYI
Please let me call to your attention our advertisement for a position as an Instructional Professor in Sociology<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__apply.interfolio.com_11…> in the M.A. Program in the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. This position is open in terms of field, but we are particularly interested in applicants whose research focuses on race, immigration, or Native and Indigenous studies.
This is a full-time, career track teaching position that offers opportunities for both classroom teaching and for mentoring students on research projects. The initial three-year appointment will begin in Academic Year 2023-24 and is renewable with opportunity for promotion. Appointment at rank Assistant, Associate, and full Instructional Professor will be considered based on the candidate's experience.
An Instructional Professor in MAPSS teaches four quarter (nine-week) courses, including one section of the required social theory course, Perspectives in Social Science Analysis, and serves as an advisor and second reader for 18 to 20 students as they formulate and write an M.A. thesis. As you may know, MAPSS enrolls outstanding students, very many of whom compete successfully for admission to the best doctoral programs in Sociology. IPs are strongly supported in their development by the leadership and senior academic staff in MAPSS. They also participate regularly in the activities of our departments.
I hope you will bring this opportunity to the attention of current students and graduates. We aim to attract the strongest and most diverse applicants, so I hope you will especially consider students from groups historically under-represented in the academy. The successful applicant must have Ph.D. in hand by the start of the appointment in September.
If you or a prospective applicant has any questions about the position, please contact MAPSS's faculty director, Mark Hansen, at jhansen(a)uchicago.edu<mailto:jhansen@uchicago.edu> or the program's director, Darcy Heuring, at darcy(a)uchicago.edu<mailto:darcy@uchicago.edu>. The full listing, which includes instructions for applicants, may be found here<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__apply.interfolio.com_11…>. Review of applications will begin on February 27.
Thank you for helping us to identify outstanding candidates for this position.
Sincerely yours,
Mark Hansen
