As part of a new university strategic focus in
Social Justice, the College of Arts and Sciences
at Case Western Reserve University invites
applications for a tenure-track position.
Candidates' research and scholarship should focus
on U.S. urban issues with emphases on power and
politics, cities and capitalism, inequality,
activism, or other social justice-related topics.
Specialization and rank are open. Qualified
applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand or have met
all requirements for a Ph.D. by August 2011.
Candidates at the Assistant Professor level
should demonstrate promise for research and
teaching excellence; Associate Professor
candidates should have established a significant
professional reputation; candidates for Professor
should be internationally recognized for
leadership and scholarship in their discipline.
The successful candidate will have a 2/2 teaching
load and be located in a department appropriate to
their disciplinary training or field of study. The
successful candidate will be the second of several
new anticipated tenure-track hires over the next
several years in the College to support the
university-wide Social Justice Institute's
commitment to understanding inequality, policy,
and social change through research and scholarship
and by training social justice leaders. The
Institute's work reflects the University's mission
to improve people's lives through preeminent
research, education, and creative endeavor. The
new hire is expected to directly contribute to the
Institute and its alliance-based initiatives.

committed to advancing social justice-related work
at CWRU, a Research 1 university. The

issues of disparity in Cleveland and Northeast
Ohio, where the economic recession is exacerbating
urban inequalities in employment, education and

The School of Public and Environmental Affairs
(SPEA) at Indiana University seeks a tenure-track
faculty member in the area of econometrics,
statistics and quantitative social science methods
on the Bloomington campus.
Applicants whose training is in one or more
diverse fields, such as economics, political
science, sociology, and/or statistics are invited
to apply. The specific topical field of research
is open. The appointment is expected to be at the
Assistant Professor level, but a more senior
appointment is possible for an exceptionally
qualified candidate. Applicants must present
evidence of high quality research and an ambitious
research program with a public policy orientation,
an interest in professional service, and a strong
commitment to high quality teaching. The
individual selected for this position will be able
to teach graduate-level courses in advanced
quantitative social science methods, as well as
serve on doctoral advisory committees. The Ph.D.
or equivalent terminal degree is required in an
appropriate field before the appointment is completed.
SPEA is a multidisciplinary, professional school
within Indiana University committed to excellence
in research, teaching, and service and to
addressing critical issues of public and
environmental affairs. SPEA is one of the largest
U.S. public affairs school in the nation with more
than 70 tenure-track faculty on its two main

GEARS is seeking to fill 3 positions for
contracted work at the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC )/ National Center for Health
Statistics (NCHS), Hyattsville, MD, in the DC
metro area. NCHS is undertaking major improvements
in the ability of its annual ambulatory surveys to
inform policymakers about the use of preventive
services and monitor the effects of policy changes
over time. One initiative will increase the sample
of physicians for the National Ambulatory Medical
Care Survey (NAMCS) to permit state-based
estimates of preventive services in ambulatory
visits. Another initiative will use NAMCS and the
National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey
(NHAMCS) to document the use of appropriate
preventive services at visits with patients
diagnosed with heart disease or stroke.

Position Responsibilities
The contractors will aid in computerizing NAMCS
and NHAMCS data collection to improve the quality
and timeliness of the data and analyses. This will
require designing new methods and tools,
conducting a pilot and pretest, revising the
methods and tools, training field representatives,
and implementing final methods and materials in
the two national surveys for calendar year 2012.
Increases in the NAMCS sample of physicians will
begin with calendar year 2011 and continue with
2012. Implementation will also require rethinking
and redesigning NCHS procedures for sampling
physicians and visits, relating to the field
representatives and providers, processing data,
making statistical estimates, and making data
files available to the public.
Education
A Master's degree in biostatistics, survey
statistics, health services research,
epidemiology, economics, sociology, nursing,
medicine, or a related field, or a Bachelor's
degree and equivalent experience.
Other Minimum Qualifications
A valid work authorization or U.S. citizenship and
Experience with SAS statistical software
Other Desirable Qualifications
Training and experience in the analysis of data,
data collection techniques, and data analysis;
Experience with BLAISE software; and
Knowledge of health data systems.
