Dear Colleague:
The Department of Sociology at California State University, Fresno is currently conducting a search to hire an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) to start in AY2022-2023, and we would appreciate your help in encouraging good candidates to apply.
An official announcement of the position is attached. We are seeking a candidate who has experience in undergraduate teaching as the instructor of record and has the ability to teach at least two courses in our upper-division core curriculum, which includes Social Classes & Inequality, Classical Sociological Theory, Contemporary Sociological Theory, Quantitative Research Methods, and Qualitative Research Methods. Additionally, we would prefer candidates with the ability to teach elective courses in any of the following areas: urban sociology; sociology of crime and deviance; sociology of race and ethnicity; sociology of sex and gender; sociology of education; and sociology of philanthropy and community benefit organizations. Finally, candidates should have experience teaching, conducting research, or engaging in community service about social issues that center the experiences of Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.
Our sociology department has approximately 550 majors and is part of a regional university of over 25,000 students serving the culturally diverse Central Valley of California. Teaching is very important to us (we are on a semester system with a standard four-course teaching load that is reduced for the first two years to 3-3).
We would appreciate your help in finding qualified applicants for our position. Please distribute the attached announcement to anyone you think might qualify. We are happy to answer any questions that an interested person might have.
