Subject: NIH now hiring Social and Behavioral Scientist Administrators
Good morning, All.
The Center for Scientific Review (CSR) at NIH is looking to hire multiple social and behavioral scientists from the GS-13/14 Social and Behavioral Scientist Administrator announcements that will run from October 31st - November 4th. Please pass this announcement along to anyone who may be interested in working as an SRO at NIH. The application window is short, only one week, so we need to circulate this as quickly and widely as possible.
Thanks,
Suzanne
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Center for Scientific Review (CSR)
Scientific Review Officer (Social and Behavioral Scientist Administrator) Position
The Center for Scientific Review (CSR) is the gateway for NIH grant applications and their review for scientific merit. We organize the peer review groups or study sections that evaluate the majority (75%) of the research grant applications sent to NIH. We also receive all grant applications for NIH, as well as for some other components of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
The Center for Scientific Review (CSR) is the home to a community of over 240 diverse and accomplished scientists who share a deep commitment to science and health and making sure NIH grant applications are fairly and expertly reviewed. These Scientific Review Officers (SROs) play pivotal roles in ensuring that the NIH peer review process identifies the most promising research grant applications, because the most important factor in determining whether an NIH grant application is funded by NIH is how well it fares in peer review.
SROs help ensure the vitality of NIH peer review by using their scientific expertise and communication and interpersonal skills to-
* Analyze the scientific content of grant applications,
* Identify the scientists invited to serve on study sections and assign the applications each member will review,
* Organize and run peer-review meetings to assess grant applications,
* Provide applicants with a succinct written summary statement explaining how the review committee viewed the applications.
CSR is actively seeking scientists who combine a broad and current understanding of research in biomedical and behavioral sciences. We are particularly interested in the following specific expertise: Epidemiology, population research, demography, social science, health services research, health informatics, nursing science and related fields. Successful candidates will be respected, accomplished scientists with maturity, integrity and outstanding communication skills. Requirements include an M.D. or Ph.D. in the biomedical or behavioral sciences (or equivalent training and experience); American citizenship; and a record of independent research accomplishments, documented by an outstanding publication record and administrative background.
The Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health invites you to apply for a professional track currently available at CSR. The vacancy announcements can be found through the NIH Recruitment website (www.jobs.nih.gov/globalrecruitment<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.jobs.nih.gov_global…>). Subject: GCWS Open PT Lecturer Positions for 2020-2021
To: Beckfield, Jason <jwb(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:jwb@fas.harvard.edu>>
Good afternoon Jason,
The Consortium for Graduate Studies in Gender, Culture, Women, and Sexuality (GCWS) is seeking faculty for multiple part-time lecturer positions for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. The position descriptions are attached here. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with the plan to fill them as quickly as possible. Can you please share the information with your department?
Faculty from our member institutions (Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis, Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, Simmons, Tufts, and UMass Boston) are welcome to apply. Courses meet on the MIT campus. Graduate students of any discipline and from any of the member institutions are eligible to register for the course. The instructor will determine the day and time the workshop meets.
Feminist Inquiry and the elective course will be team taught and we encourage interested teaching teams to apply together though we welcome applications from individual instructors. The GCWS office can help connect interested applicants. The Dissertation Workshop is a full year course that meets every other week and is taught by one instructor.
The GCWS has a memorandum of agreement with our member institutions which allows faculty members to teach a course for us as part of their regular teaching load or to receive a stipend.
Additional information can be found on the GCWS website<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.gcws.mit.edu_open-…> or please contact the Program Manager, Stacey Lantz (slantz(a)mit.edu<mailto:slantz@mit.edu>) with any questions.

The Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University announces the 2020-21 Call for Applications for the following fellowship programs:
Fellows-in-Residence<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__r20.rs6.net_tn.jsp-3Ff-…>
Application deadline: November 15, 2019
The Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University invites applications from a broad range of researchers and practitioners who will work over the course of the year on pressing issues in ethics. Faculty in arts and sciences and professional schools, postdoctoral scholars, practitioners, and researchers from industry, government, and NGOs are eligible to apply.
Priority will be given to early career scholars and practitioners whose work closely aligns with our theme, the “Ethics of Technological and Biomedical Innovation<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__r20.rs6.net_tn.jsp-3Ff-…>,” but we reserve some "open" slots for senior scholars and practitioners, and for exceptionally competitive applicants whose work in ethics falls outside this scope. The goal will be to craft a cohort in which all fellows will find valuable intellectual partnerships to support and spur their work.
All Fellows-in-Residence will be expected to devote the majority of their time to their individual projects and to participate in regular work-in-progress seminars. In addition, Fellows are strongly encouraged to participate in the Center's programming, which includes public lectures, themed seminars and reading groups, conferences, workshops, and lunch discussions.
Under our current theme, the Center is pleased to offer joint fellowship opportunities with the following Centers:
· Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__r20.rs6.net_tn.jsp-3Ff-…> at Harvard University
· Carr Center for Human Rights<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__r20.rs6.net_tn.jsp-3Ff-…> at the Harvard Kennedy School
· Center for Bioethics<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__r20.rs6.net_tn.jsp-3Ff-…> at the Harvard Medical School

Graduate Fellowships in Ethics<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__r20.rs6.net_tn.jsp-3Ff-…>
(for Harvard-enrolled students)
Application deadline: November 1, 2019
The Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics Graduate Fellowship Program invites applications from graduate students who are writing dissertations or are engaged in major research on topics in practical ethics, especially ethical issues in architecture, business, education, government, law, medicine, public health, public policy, and religion.
Graduate Fellows are expected to devote their time to an approved course of research and study and to participate in a weekly Center seminar, where they workshop papers and dissertation chapters and discuss research problems and strategies common to the study of practical and professional ethics. In addition, Graduate Fellows are expected to take part in the wider intellectual life of the Center.
The Center seeks applicants who have excelled in their fields of specialization, have demonstrated an interest in questions of value that cut across disciplinary boundaries, and who are likely to make significant contributions to teaching and scholarship in practical and professional ethics. Some successful applicants will have a strong background in moral philosophy or political thought; others will be grounded in fields of public policy or professional practice. All course requirements and general examinations must be completed before the start of the fellowship year.
Undergraduate Fellowships in Ethics<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__r20.rs6.net_tn.jsp-3Ff-…>
(for Harvard-enrolled students)
Application deadline: November 1, 2019
The Edmond J. Safra Undergraduate Fellowship Program welcomes applications from Harvard College sophomores and juniors from any concentration who are pursuing research and writing with an ethics dimension, and who wish to develop their talents in modes of inquiry that are essential to tackling critical moral issues in public life.
The Undergraduate Fellowship program seeks to provide students with the opportunity to engage in an informed analysis of values in their own areas of inquiry that will lead to the completion of a senior thesis. In pursuit of this goal, Undergraduate Fellows complete an ethics seminar with the director of the program, participate in an ongoing ethics research workshop, and attend lectures and dinners hosted by the Center. In addition, Undergraduate Fellows are offered a wide range of opportunities to interact with faculty, fellows, and graduate students affiliated with the Center
