In the context of the current interdisciplinary research project Studying TRansactions in Adolescence: TEsting Genes in Interaction with EnvironmentS (STRATEGIES) (promotors: Luc Goossens, Stephan Claes, Hilde Colpin, Wim Van den Noortgate, Karla Van Leeuwen, Karine Verschueren ) the Special Research Fund of the University of Leuven offers the chance - within the so called F+ program - to apply for a fellowship for a postdoctoral researcher.
STRATEGIES is a large-scale longitudinal study in which more than 1000 adolescents will be followed over a three-year period. Currently the third data wave is being conducted. Both genetic data as well as questionnaire relating to the adolescent' adjustments and their social relationships of adolescents (including peer relations) were already collected.
As the study also includes social network analysis, and in the light of the expertise within your research group on peer relationships and dynamic social network analyses, we would like to ask you if you could recommend a postdoctoral researcher for this fellowship. Along with the researcher a specific project goal can be defined. Depending on the term, we expect 1 or 2 publications at the end of the period.
The fellowship would take 6 to 12 months (e.g., 9 months). The candidate must have completed a PhD at a university outside Belgium and should not have studied in Belgium either. He/she may have up to 6 years seniority as a postdoctoral researcher. During the fellowship, the researcher needs to be domiciled in Belgium. He or she will receive a net scholarship amount of 1.930 euro per month. You will find more detailed information on the conditions and procedure via this link: http://www.kuleuven.be/research/funding/bof/personal/index.html#fp (see: last call of the BOF F+-fellowships).
Potential candidates may contact us for more information. We can think about how this fellowship may contribute to the cooperation of our research groups, if you wish.
The deadline for application is March 27, 2014. Because the preparation takes some time, we would like to know as soon as possible whether there is a possible candidate from your research unit.
Yours sincerely,
Karine Verschueren and Hilde Colpin

Sociologist/Social Scientist
The Institute for Futures Studies (IFFS), Stockholm, is appointing a researcher to the project Children’s living conditions in a changing society:
Socioeconomic and ethnic inequality. The project is concerned with social and ethnic inequalities among young people in present-day society, including intergenerational processes and segregation mechanisms, and is funded by a long-term grant by Forte (Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life, and Welfare). It covers five major themes: educational inequality, child poverty, school and wellbeing, ethnic integration, and family structure. Around ten researchers at IFFS and Swedish Institute for Social Research at Stockholm University are currently engaged within the project, and much of the research involves international collaboration. IFFS, located in the heart of Stockholm city, hosts several related large-scale research projects, including projects on school and labour market segregation, employing and collaborating with internationally renowned scholars within sociology and related disciplines (www.iffs.se/en).
We seek an outstanding quantitative social scientist whose research interests and qualifications fall into one or more of the project themes. The successful candidate is expected to pursue their own research as well as collaborating with colleagues within the project and its international network. Fluency in English and experience in handling and analyzing micro-level data is a requirement, and knowledge of advanced statistical methods and proficiency in languages relevant for the work in the project (Swedish, German, Dutch) is a merit. A PhD is expected to be awarded by the time of appointment, but excellent applicants in the final stages of their PhD will also be considered.
We can offer a stimulating research environment, extraordinary data materials (including micro-level population register data and the CILS4EU longitudinal
study: www.cils4.eu), and competitive salaries. The position will initially be appointed for three years, with a possible extension, and should preferably be taken up at latest by September 2014. The position entails no teaching or supervision obligations, and project-related administrative chores of no more than 15% of the working time. The salary level depends on qualification, starting at 39,000 SEK a month (appr. 53,000 Euro or 72,000 USD per annum).
Applicants should submit, preferably by email:
1. A letter of application with a description of research interests (max 3 pages)
2. Curriculum Vitae, listing work experience and publications 3. Examples of published work or dissertation chapters (max 3 items) 4. Two references (name, position, email address)
The deadline for applications is March 16th 2014. Applications should be sent to carina.mood(a)iffs.se or Carina Mood, Institute for Futures Studies, Box 591, 101 31 Stockholm, Sweden
