The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science provides opportunities in all disciplines to pre- and post-doctoral researchers from the U.S. to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions for one to twelve months. In so doing, the program is designed to help advance the research of the visiting fellows, while augmenting opportunities for young researchers to come to Japan from the U.S. Applicants must have obtained their doctoral degree at a university outside Japan within six years of the date the fellowship goes into effect or must be currently enrolled in a doctoral course at a university outside Japan and scheduled to receive their Ph.D. within two years. Applicants must arrange in advance a research plan with a host researcher in Japan.

Project/job description
The Department of Sociology<http://www.sociology.su.se/english/> at Stockholm University seeks to employ a post doc for the ERC-funded project Individual Life Chances in Social Context - A Longitudinal Multi-Methods Perspective on Social Constraints and Opportunities. The project is focused on analyzing a unique longitudinal dataset, combining survey data and register data, to study social network and contextual effects (neighborhoods and schools) on individual life chances for young Swedes with and without a migrant background. The project aims to study the extent to which social networks and social capital over time influence young adults' life chances pertaining to health, labor market, and education.
We expect the successful applicant to pursue state-of-the-art quantitative data analysis and to write articles aimed for publication in international journals, independently and in collaboration with other researchers in the group.
Qualifications
The applicant should have earned a PhD degree in a relevant area within the last five years. The applicant should have very strong skills in quantitative data analysis, and should have excellent English language skills, in oral and written communication.
Terms of employment
Two-year post doc position, starting September 1, 2013.

Ideal candidates for the Consultant position are graduates of top PhD or MBA programs with some work experience.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
Behavioral Science Training in Drug Abuse Research
PURPOSE: This postdoctoral program supports behavioral scientists interested in learning about and developing careers in advanced research in the area of drug use and misuse.
THE RESEARCH AND TRAINING EXPERIENCE: Postdoctoral Fellows will develop knowledge of and skills in drug abuse research through hands-on experience and formal training. Working closely with senior project directors, Fellows participate in on-going research and develop their own research projects. Examples of on-going projects include studies related to drug abuse and crime, intravenous drug use, HIV/AIDS, prenatal and maternal drug use, treatment of mentally ill drug abusers, teen drug use and psychosocial health, and evaluations of several treatment programs. In-house training emphasizes field data collection, statistical analysis, computer use, program evaluation, professional writing for publication, proposal writing, policy-making, and the practical application of these skills. Fellows are encouraged to carry out their own projects, conduct their own research, and submit grant proposals to funding sources. In addition, Fellows may enroll at universities in the metropolitan area to take advanced courses on drug abuse research, related substantive topics, and research methodologies as deemed necessary to round out their professional expertise.
BENEFITS: Fellows will receive an annual stipend ranging from $39,264 (with no postdoctoral experience) to $54,180 (with 7 years experience), health insurance, tuition and fees and research-related support. Fellowship appointments are made for a period of 12 months and renewable for up to another two years.
SPONSOR: The training program is sponsored by the Public Health Solutions and is located at the National Development and Research Institutes, Inc. Both are private nonprofit research institutes with close ties to the Columbia University School of Public Health.
