The context : the School of Social and Political Science , in a large, predominantly qualitative project led by Professor Donald MacKenzie and funded by the European Research Council: Evaluation Practices in Financial Markets (EPIFM).
The successful candidate will have either a PhD in the social sciences and experience of similar research, together with a reasonable background in mathematics; or extensive academic/practitioner experience of finance.
This fixed-term post is available from 1 September 2012 to 31 August 2015. Appointment will be made on the Grade 7 Scale, £30,122 - £35,938.

I'm writing to ask for your assistance in "spreading the word" about an opening for an Associate Research Scientist at New England Research Institutes in Watertown, MA. This position is a good fit for an early-career sociologist, such as a recent PhD recipient, who has strong qualitative and mixed methods research skills. Associate Research Scientist/Qualitative
Consistent with its founding motto, "No research without therapeutic or policy benefit," New England Research Institutes (NERI) strongly encourages its scientists to implement innovative designs using multi-method approaches and to try new strategies for disseminating results. At the center of this effort is NERI's Center for Qualitative Research (CQR), which maintains a diverse and growing portfolio of qualitative and mixed methods research.
Within NERI's Institute for Health Services and Disparities Research, the CQR seeks to add an Associate Research Scientist to its team.
The Associate Research Scientist will:
· Direct study design, data collection, and data analysis for small CQR projects;
· Collaborate with researchers to conduct analytic coding and analysis for large qualitative datasets;
· Retrieve and synthesize appropriate background literature and write peer-reviewed papers;
· Collaborate with researchers on developing future project concept papers and contribute to proposals;
· Assist investigators in developing protocols and study materials;
· Develop work plans, initiate and implement procedures for quality control.
The position requires a PhD in a social science with strong qualitative research skills. Areas of specialization are open, but a background in health services research is preferred. Ability to work independently and excellent written and verbal skills are required. Proficiency with the Atlas.ti software program is preferred, as well as the ability to learn new software programs as needed.
