POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES, EMORY UNIVERSITY
The Emory Program in Development Studies is seeking a one-year
post-doctoral fellow to strengthen its teaching and research in
development studies, with a specific focus on the development
challenges of weak governance and protracted crises. The position
will begin August 15, 2010 and will be renewable for a second year
pending budgetary approval. In terms of regional specialization,
preference will be given to Sub-Saharan Africa but other regions
will be considered. Candidates must have a PhD from one of the
following disciplines: anthropology, political science, or
sociology. The successful candidate would be expected to pursue
her/his own research related to development studies and to teach
two courses per year: (1) a new graduate course on development in
areas of weak governance and protracted crises; and (2) an
undergraduate course of the candidate's choice. Salary will be
$48,000 per year with appropriate benefits, including health
insurance, and a small research/travel allowance. To apply, please

**The Watson Institute seeks several recent PhDs for three year
residential visiting fellowships, beginning July 1, 2010.
Successful candidates will pursue their own research and also contribute
to the development of collective and collaborative research at the
Institute. They will teach one course per semester, chosen in
consultation with the Institute’s director, and advise students.
The mission of the Watson Institute is to pursue interdisciplinary
research on pressing global issues and to foster more direct engagements
between scholarship and policy and public debates.

Queens College seeks an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor with
expertise in Cyber infrastructure as applied to population, demographic
or epidemiological studies. This is one of a cluster of hires
supported by the CUNY Central Office, as such, the incumbent will be
expected to interact and cooperate in this initiative to enhance the
use of Cyber infrastructure in Research at CUNY. Appointment will be in
the one of the following: Sociology, Computer Science, Urban Studies
Departments or School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Qualifications Ph.D. with significant research experience in applying
cyber infrastructure, especially high performance computing, to
problems arising in the fields of population, demography and
epidemiology. Examples might include, modeling the impact of spatial
patterns and/or the use of very large and diverse data sets. An
established research agenda with substantial outside funding support
is highly desirable. The successful applicant will be placed in the
appropriate department by mutual agreement. This is a tenure track
line; and initial tenure may be possible for exceptional candidates.
Appointment to the Doctoral Faculty at the Graduate Center of CUNY is
open to professors at all ranks, upon review of publication record.

The San Diego State University Research Foundation is accepting
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of
Sociology. This position will be located in the Center for Health Equity
Research and Policy, housed at SDSU.
This scholar will primarily assist with a project titled, "A Social
Demography of Racial Health Disparities", which has been funded by the
National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD). The
Postdoctoral Fellow should have a Ph.D. completed at the time of the
appointment in Sociology, Demography, Public Health, or a related area.
This fellow should have substantive interests in health disparities,
sophisticated quantitative analysis skills, experience working with
large data sets, and experience working in interdisciplinary environments.
The fellow must have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline before
they begin the appointment. Applicants from historically
underrepresented populations are highly encouraged. Pay is competitive
for NIH Postdoctoral Fellows and includes health insurance, a travel and
supplies budget, as well as moving expenses. Expected appointment dates
are: 9/1/10-8/31/12.

The Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research, directed
by David Mechanic, offers postdoctoral opportunities for research and
training in mental health research. The National Institute of Mental Health
provides funding for the program. Trainee stipends range from $37,368 to
$51,552 per year, depending on years since completing of the doctorate.
The major foci of the program are mental health services research and
psychosocial factors in mental health and illness. Participating disciplines
include sociology, psychology, psychiatry, history, economics, anthropology,
public policy, and social work. Two-year appointments starting June 2010 are
