I write in search of candidates for openings in the field of workforce, organization and leadership for the Accenture Institute for High Performance. Given your prominence in that field, I was hoping that you might know of doctoral candidates or recent graduates interested in a career in research with strong connections to practice. The Institute for High Performance (www.accenture.com/institute<http://www.accenture.com/institute>) is a "think and act" tank that develops and publishes practical insights into critical management issues and global economic trends. Its worldwide team of researchers connects with Accenture's strategy, technology, digital and operations leaders to demonstrate how organizations become and remain high performers through original, rigorous research and analysis.
Having been part of the Institute for nearly 16 years (and coming from an academic background), I can tell you that this is an exciting place to work: no shortage of opportunities to work on state of the art topics, a high level of demand for our thought leadership both inside and outside Accenture, and many ways to get recognized for excellence. The Institute, for example, has close ties with Accenture's Technology Labs, its Analytics business, and the Strategy practice.
Both openings are intended to strengthen our group dedicated to workforce, organization and leadership topics. Of greatest interest is research on global workforce demographic trends, the changing nature of employment and jobs, the future of artificial intelligence/cognitive computing in business and government, and/or the future of family-owned conglomerates in rapidly developing economies.
A manager-level position (which we describe as a "Research Fellow") is best suited for a new PhD (2-4 years vintage) who has a few high quality publications but is more interested in research than in teaching. Research Fellows serve as lead researchers in teams of 3-5 members - usually virtual teams - and have many opportunities to get bylines for their contributions. A senior manager-level position (Senior Research Fellow) is someone with 5-7 years research experience, a track record of publication for management audiences and experience leading large complex projects. Senior Research Fellows actively participate in setting the agenda for the Institute's annual research agenda and are often called upon to serve as subject matter experts in high-profile client presentations.
If you have someone to recommend, please let me know who they and how to reach them. Feel free to forward this email to potential candidates and to colleagues who may be working with graduate students in the fields I've described. For convenience, I've appended the position description and a link to our recruiting website.
Thank you very much for your help!

Subject: Student Job Opportunity
Dear Colleague,
The Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership (DICP) at Harvard Medical School (HMS) is conducting a NIH funded study titled Increasing Diversity among Medical School Faculty, which focuses on the processes of building and utilizing connections for career advancement. Specifically, we aim to identify barriers and facilitators of connecting senior faculty and junior faculty, particularly junior URM and women faculty. As part of the study, we plan to apply for a NIH diversity supplement, which will provide an opportunity for a student to work on a project and topic of their choosing with the goal of developing their research skills and knowledge.
The NIH Diversity supplement is offered to provide mentored research training for students to prepare them for independent scientific careers. The supplement is designed for individuals from groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences, including racial and ethnic minorities, persons with disabilities and individuals from economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds that have inhibited their ability to pursue a career in health-related research. Candidates must be American citizens or permanent residents in order to be eligible for diversity supplement support. We intend for the student to start in the Fall of 2015.
The job description and candidate qualifications are attached. If you know of students who meet these criteria and who would benefit from this experience, please share the information with them. As indicated, applicants should send a current resume and cover letter with statement of interest to Emorcia Hill (emorcia_hill(a)hms.harvard.edu<mailto:emorcia_hill@hms.harvard.edu>) and Michael Wake (michael_wake(a)hms.harvard.edu<mailto:michael_wake@hms.harvard.edu>).
If you have any additional questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Joan
